Prince Louis, the youngest child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, is turning three today, April 23rd.

To commemorate this special occasion, the royal couple has released a delightful new photograph of their little prince.

Taken by his proud mother, Catherine, the photo captures Prince Louis riding his bike in the beautiful grounds of Kensington Palace, beaming at his mother as he prepares for his first day at nursery school.

In the picture, the young prince is dressed in light blue shorts and a navy sweatshirt.

Underneath, a royal striped shirt peeks out, with the collar carefully tucked over the top.

Completing his outfit are velcro lime and blue trainers and a matching rucksack.

Prince Louis looks absolutely thrilled as he poses on his bright red bike, ready to embark on this exciting new chapter of making friends at nursery.

Not one to miss such a special occasion, Queen Elizabeth II, Louis’ great-grandmother, who recently celebrated her own 95th birthday, has shared a heartwarming message for her little great-grandson.

The Queen took to her official Instagram page to post her well wishes, accompanied by an adorable photo of Prince Louis.

The caption reads, “Wishing Prince Louis a very happy third birthday today,” followed by a bicycle emoji.

The photograph, taken earlier this week by the Duchess, captures the joy and anticipation before Louis headed off to nursery.

Joining in the birthday celebrations, Prince Louis’ grandfather, Prince Charles, and his step-grandmother, the Duchess of Cornwall, also sent their warm wishes.

Clarence House reposted the sweet photo shared by the Cambridges on their social media accounts, adding the caption, “A very happy birthday to Prince Louis, who turns three today,” along with a cake emoji.

Prince Charles shares a special bond with his grandson, and royal fans have been fortunate to witness some touching moments between the two over the past three years.

Last year, on Louis’ second birthday, Clarence House shared a black and white snapshot of Charles embracing the little prince.

Additionally, Louis stole the show in photos released to celebrate Prince Charles’ 70th birthday in 2018.

In one family portrait, which included the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the royals were captured laughing as Louis, then just four months old, affectionately grabbed his grandfather’s face.

Other heartwarming shots showcased Charles holding Louis’ hands as the young prince sat in his mother Catherine’s arms, as well as the future king proudly cradling his baby grandson.

Prince Louis was born on April 23, 2018, at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.

Shortly after his birth, his full name, Prince Louis Arthur Charles, was announced.

He stands as the fifth in line to the throne, following his sister, Princess Charlotte.

The name Louis holds significance within the royal family, as both Prince William and Prince George have it as a middle name in honor of Prince Charles’ mentor, Lord Louis Mountbatten.

Furthermore, the inclusion of Charles pays tribute to Louis’ grandfather, the Prince of Wales, who expressed his delight at the arrival of another baby in the family.

While Prince Louis bears the official title of His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge, he only possesses an HRH title due to the intervention of his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

According to reports from the Express, King George V established a rule in 1917 specifying which royals were eligible for titles.

This rule stated that all of the sovereign’s children would automatically become a prince or princess, as well as any grandchildren born through the male line.

However, great-grandchildren were not included in this list.

This posed a dilemma when Prince George was born, as he technically should not have been granted a title despite being the future king.

Queen Elizabeth II stepped in and ensured that George received a title, extending the same courtesy to all of Catherine and William’s children.

As a result, even though Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are further down the line of succession and unlikely to ascend to the throne, they are also bestowed with the titles of prince and princess.

Without the Queen’s intervention, Louis would have been known as Master Louis Cambridge or Master Louis Windsor.

As Prince Louis celebrates his third birthday, the world eagerly watches him grow and wishes him a joyful and fulfilling year ahead.
