Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have bid farewell to their residence on the grounds of Windsor Castle, according to Buckingham Palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have officially vacated Frogmore Cottage, as confirmed by Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, during an annual Sovereign Grant Account briefing on Royal finances.

The decision to leave their last foothold in the UK came after King Charles reportedly requested the couple to remove their belongings from the property.

The move follows the release of Prince Harry’s best-selling memoir, Spare, earlier this year.

However, no further details about their new arrangements were provided during the briefing.

Sir Michael emphasized that the Duke and Duchess have fully reimbursed the Sovereign Grant for the expenses incurred in renovating Frogmore Cottage.

This has resulted in a significant increase in the Crown’s assets.

When asked about the future occupancy of the residence, a Palace official declined to comment, stating that such information would be communicated in next year’s report.

Addressing rumors about Prince Andrew potentially being offered Frogmore Cottage, Sir Michael firmly stated that no details regarding the Duke’s private lease arrangements would be discussed during the briefing.

Frogmore Cottage, a charming five-bedroom Georgian house situated within the Windsor Castle grounds, was initially gifted to Harry and Meghan by the late Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding present in 2018.

Since their relocation to California, the couple has used the cottage during occasional visits to Britain.

In 2019, the Duke and Duchess invested £2.4 million (approximately $3 million) in refurbishing and renting the property.

The use of taxpayer money for the renovation had sparked controversy, leading the couple to repay the funds when they negotiated their departure from royal duties in 2020.

As the news of their departure from Frogmore Cottage spreads, speculation arises about who may occupy the residence in the future.

However, no official statement has been made regarding this matter.

It is evident that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave their Windsor Castle residence marks another significant chapter in their journey away from the royal family.

The couple’s move to California has allowed them to establish a new life, away from the constraints and expectations of their previous roles.
