Netflix Issues Ultimatum to Harry and Meghan: Come Up with New Show Ideas or Lose Out on $75 Million

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix deal worth $75 million is reportedly in jeopardy as the streaming giant has demanded that the couple pitch better ideas for new shows.

The ultimatum comes just days after the couple’s Spotify deal fell apart.

According to a source at Netflix, a significant sum of money could be withheld from the couple unless they come up with fresh and exciting content ideas.

While there is no question of a public parting of ways, executives at Netflix have accused the couple of failing to produce strong suggestions for new shows.

The deal’s continuity is under review, which is normal for one of this magnitude.

The remainder of the deal relies on Harry and Meghan producing good ideas.

They have been asked to come up with new shows if they want to be paid £40 million or $51 million in outstanding fees.

However, Netflix is said to be underwhelmed by the offers from the Sussexes.

Ideas put forward include a sitcom that was similar to Emily in Paris and a show about LGBTQ characters similar to those in Heartstopper.

Harry and Meghan’s potential next great content idea is a Great Expectations-inspired show called Bad Manners, based on the Charles Dickens character Miss Havisham.

The prequel will recast the lonely spinster as a strong woman living in a patriarchal society.

So far, Netflix has decided not to take any of the suggestions forward.

The couple, who made last year’s top-rated documentary Harry and Meghan, have allegedly been paid half of their £81 million or $103 million deal.

They will get the rest of the money only if they produce content of real interest, an industry source has revealed.

According to a famous paper, the couple were known for big ideas but subpar execution.

Last week, a Netflix source told the paper that the lemon has been fully squeezed.

When it comes to Harry and Meghan producing content for the streamer, Meghan “lives in her own bubble and does not seem to have grasped the economic reality,” said one source.

The feeling is that the big bucks Harry and Meghan signed on for do not exist today.

To add to their humiliating broadcasting woes, it has emerged that Meghan wrote Taylor Swift a personal letter asking her to appear on her now-cancelled Spotify podcast archetypes.

The pop star declined through a representative.

Harry and Meghan’s Hollywood foray is looking like a flop, with more cancellations and rejections than produced shows.

There has been a graveyard of projects that never came to be, including an animated children’s show called Pearl, cancelled by Netflix, as well as at least two TV ideas that the streaming service rejected within the past year.

Netflix is unlikely to renew Harry and Meghan’s deal, which runs through to 2025.

Their Hollywood efforts were undermined by their inexperience as producers and trouble finding material consistent with their brand, as well as problems beyond their control, including retrenchment in the entertainment and podcasting businesses.

In conclusion, the pressure is on for Harry and Meghan to come up with fresh and exciting content ideas if they want to keep their $75 million Netflix deal.
