Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s multi-million dollar Netflix deal is reportedly at risk as the streaming giant demands higher quality content from the couple.

According to The Sun, Netflix executives have informed the ex-royal couple that they must produce better shows, documentaries, or movies to claim the rest of their $100 million-plus contract.

If they fail to do so, Netflix may cut their deal short and refuse to pay them in full.

The couple’s six-part documentary series was the most-viewed documentary on the platform.

However, they are believed to have been paid only half of their reported $100 million contract.

An industry source revealed that Netflix was happy with the viewing figures for the series and is looking for more great ideas from the couple.

The remainder of the deal relies on them producing content of real interest.

Meghan reportedly pitched an idea for an animated series about a girl inspired by historical female figures, but it got dropped by Netflix.

The streaming giant apparently did not think it was compelling enough, a recurring theme they’re now hearing about them as creatives.

A Netflix insider claimed that “the lemon has been fully squeezed.”

Netflix bosses are awaiting the final series of royal drama, The Crown, featuring the early stages of William and Catherine’s relationship.

The streaming giant would not cut them loose publicly or humiliatingly like Spotify did, but it would grab big headlines and probably not be a good look.

It’s unclear when the couple needs to make good on their deal, but the clock is ticking.

If they fail to deliver, it could seriously impact their financial futures in the long run.

However, the pair is currently creating a show for Netflix called Bad Manners, a prequel to the Charles Dickens classic Great Expectations.

The show retells the story of a lonely Miss Havisham living in a patriarchal society.

It’s unknown whether Netflix has commissioned the show.

A documentary on the Invictus Games, a production agreed shortly after the couple signed the £80 million deal with Netflix in 2020, is still in the works.

It’s one of the couple’s only ideas that wasn’t rejected by the streaming giant.

The Wall Street Journal analysis said that Harry and Meghan had suggested shows that were too similar to already popular Netflix programs such as sitcoms like Emily in Paris but about a man, and a show about LGBTQ characters similar to those in Heartstopper.

Another suggestion was a documentary discussing misinformation, which also didn’t make it off the drawing board.

This news is not great for Harry and Meghan, as it seems that wherever they’ve inked big-time deals, the companies have been unsatisfied.

Although they are already wealthy, their Hollywood prospects being cut short could seriously impact their financial futures.

Therefore, they need to come up with new and compelling ideas to keep their deal with Netflix alive.
