Meghan and Harry’s Archetypes Request Rejected by Officials

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have received another setback to their business plans.

Just days after ending their Spotify deal, the couple’s request to trademark the name of their podcast series has been rejected by US officials.

This is a major commercial blow for the couple as they had sought to claim archetype rights in areas such as downloadable audio recordings and podcasts, as well as anything that falls into the category of the cultural treatment of women and female-facing stereotypes.

The couple filed for exclusive rights to archetypes, but the US Patent and Trademark Office rejected their claims on the grounds of potential confusion with an existing trademark.

Meghan and Harry’s attorney Witter Norman, of Los Angeles-based firm Wilkie, Pharr, and Gallagher, has applied for an additional three months to improve the application, the Daily Mail reports.

Records indicate that the royal couple failed to sign their own application to the regulatory body.

Understandably, Meghan made the mistake when trying to reinvigorate the brand The Tig, the lifestyle blog she ran for three years before marrying Harry.

The application was denied due to an existing trademark by Arizona Archetypes LLC, which sought exclusive use in 2015 for a series of books and articles on nutrition, fitness, sexuality, psychological self-improvement and more.

This rejection comes just days after the couple terminated a multi-million pound deal with Spotify.

The streaming giant will not be renewing Meghan’s archetypes for a second series.

Last week, Spotify released a joint statement with Meghan and Harry announcing their plans to separate.

The statement said they had mutually agreed to finalize the deal and were proud of the series they’ve made together.

Despite this setback, the couple still has some deals.

They signed a multi-million-pound deal with Netflix in 2020, as well as a deal with Penguin Random House.

The couple’s Harry and Meghan Netflix documentary series was released last December, while Harry’s memoirs were published in January 2023.

Meghan and Harry have sought to claim archetype rights in areas such as downloadable audio recordings and podcasts and in anything that falls into the category of the cultural treatment of women and female-facing stereotypes.
