Actor Jesse Williams is unfazed after intimate images and footage of his n^de scene in Broadway play “Take Me Out” was leaked online.

Despite the violation, Williams told The Associated Press on Thursday that he’s not discouraged and plans to continue performing nightly as expected.

He added that consent is important and called for the community to keep advocating for themselves.

The leak has been met with criticism from both show producers and the union representing actors and stage managers.

Williams portrays a Major League Baseball superstar who comes out as gay in Richard Greenberg’s “Take Me Out”.

The play explores how the revelation unsettles the team and unleashes toxic prejudices.

Williams’ performance earned him a Tony Award nomination, with the show itself up for a Tony too.

Though Broadway shows prohibit recording of any kind during performances, theatre company Second Stage Theater, which is producing the revival, has added Yondr pouches to protect the actors, many of whom are n^ked in shower scenes.

Audience members are asked to put their phones into a locked pouch that is only opened at the end of the show.

Producers have said they will beef up security measures following the leak.

The incident is the latest example of performers’ privacy or wellbeing being compromised, following Will Smith’s Oscar slap of Chris Rock and an attack on Dave Chapelle by a man at the Hollywood Bowl.

One of Williams’ co-stars, Michael Oberholtzer, who also earned a Tony nomination on Monday, described the incident as “very disappointing”.

He explained that some audience members feel entitled to behave however they wish because they’ve paid for admission or are subscription members, but that certain behaviour is never permissible and constitutes a violation of people’s consent.

Williams revealed that he was invited to participate in the revival of “Take Me Out” while starring in “Grey’s Anatomy”.

He had no idea there would be n^dty involved until he read the script.

Despite this, he believes that the n^dty serves the story and isn’t salacious.

He said it puts the audience in a unique position to empathize with the characters.

Actors, producers and the theatrical community as a whole have called for increased understanding and respect for the sacred space of the theatre, where consent is of utmost importance.
