Jeremy Zimmer Criticizes Meghan Markle’s Talent After Spotify Deal Falls Through

Jeremy Zimmer, the CEO of United Talent Agency, a prominent figure in Hollywood, has publicly labeled Meghan Markle as a talentless broadcaster.

This scathing remark comes after streaming giant Spotify terminated its £18 million deal with the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry following just one series.

Zimmer, who has guided the careers of renowned actors like Benedict Cumberbatch and Damien Lewis, expressed no surprise at Spotify’s decision.

He stated, “Turns out Meghan Markle was not a great audio talent or necessarily any kind of talent at all.”

Speaking to Semaphore, a news website, at the Canline advertising festival in France, Zimmer emphasized that fame does not automatically equate to greatness in a particular field.

This comment comes as Spotify reportedly ended the partnership due to the expectation of more content from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their Archival audio team, as reported by Variety magazine.

Archival, the audio production company co-founded by the Sussexes, released only one series, consisting of 12 episodes of Meghan’s show, “Archetypes,” last year.

The series explored social stereotypes surrounding women.

Additionally, they produced a 30-minute festival special in 2020 featuring a few celebrity friends and their son Archie.

Although “Archetypes” initially received positive reviews, talks for a second series allegedly stalled.

Spotify had invested a staggering £18 million in a multi-year partnership with the couple.

In a joint statement, the Sussexes and Spotify announced their mutual agreement to part ways.

However, recent reports claim that pop superstar Taylor Swift declined an invitation to appear on Meghan’s podcast, despite receiving a handwritten note from the Duchess herself.

The Wall Street Journal revealed that Ms.

Swift declined the offer through a representative.

While the couple’s £80 million Netflix deal has yet to produce more than a self-focused documentary and a series in development, it seems they are venturing into the world of Charles Dickens.

The Sussexes are reportedly working on a prequel to Dickens’ 1861 novel, “Great Expectations,” centered around a character based on Miss Havisham.

This project would explore the character’s story before the events of the novel, highlighting the challenges faced by strong women in a patriarchal society.

Although the show is still in development, it has not received the green light from Netflix.

Harry’s documentary about the Invictus Games is nearing completion, but according to the Wall Street Journal, it is unlikely that Netflix will renew the couple’s deal when it expires in 2025.

The report suggests that the couple’s inexperience as television producers and their struggle to find suitable material for their brand have contributed to this potential decision.

A spokesperson for WME, the talent agency that recently signed Meghan, expressed pride in the podcast “Archetypes” created at Spotify.

They also revealed that Meghan is currently working on developing more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform.

Jeremy Zimmer, the grandson of Hollywood studio chief Dory Zachary, played a pivotal role in the establishment of United Talent Agency in 1991.

Through the merger of Bauer, Benedict, and Leading Artists Agency, Zimmer transformed UTA from a boutique literary agency into one of the industry’s top talent agencies.

Representing stars such as Timothee Chalamet, Chris Pratt, Kevin Hart, and Lizzo, Zimmer has been the CEO of UTA since 2012.
