James Woods, an Academy Award nominee, was dropped by his long-time talent agent on Wednesday, citing a sense of patriotism inspired by Independence Day as the reason for his decision.

On Thursday, Woods published an email from his agent, Ken Kaplan, on Twitter. In the email, Kaplan stated that he was “feeling patriotic” and that he no longer wanted to represent Woods.

“It’s the 4th of July and I’m feeling patriotic,” Kaplan writes in his email. “I don’t want to represent you anymore. I mean I could go on a rant but you know what I’d say.” Kaplan, unlike Woods, is a political liberal, according to Woods.

“Dear Ken,” Woods wrote in his response. “I don’t actually. I was thinking if you’re feeling patriotic, you would appreciate free speech and one’s right to think as an individual. Be that as it may, I want to thank you for all your hard work and devotion on my behalf. Be well.”

At The Gersh Agency, Kaplan is a partner. Winona Ryder and Kristen Stewart are among his other clients.

Woods is a Trump fan who has made his admiration for the president known.

On Wednesday, he claimed that immigration demonstrators were merely looking for “illegal votes” and referred to former President Barack Obama as a “stain” on America in a series of tweets.

Kaplan’s decision to dismiss Woods as a client came just one day after Woods sparked controversy on Twitter by mocking Senator Elizabeth Warren. Woods posted a picture of Warren with a quote of hers that read, “Donald, you ain’t seen nasty yet.” The actor’s caption said “#NoNudes.”

The actor has a reputation for sending out bizarre tweets.

Woods was successful in suing an anonymous Twitter user for labelling him a “cocaine addict,” in 2016, but only because his opponent died. “He’s no doubt in a better place. Keep losing, dear,” Woods tweeted at Lisa Bloom, his opposition’s lawyer.

Last September, starlet Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia) accused Woods of sexual harassment. She said that when she was 16, the 71-year-old tried to “pick [her] up” with her teenage pal.

In a tweet, Woods disputed the charges, and Tamblyn subsequently wrote him an open letter in Teen Vogue, writing, “I told you my age because I thought you would be immediately horrified and take back your offer. You laughed and said, ‘Even better. We’ll have so much fun, I promise.'”

Others have come forward to allege that Woods hit on them as teenagers as a result of Tamblyn’s charges, which she also wrote about in the New York Times.
