The seating arrangement at St Paul’s Cathedral for the service of Thanksgiving on Friday reflected a stark reality for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

According to royal expert Richard Kaye, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex found themselves in the second row, alongside other less prominent members of the Royal Family.

As the real stars of the show, including Prince Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate, took their places in the front row, Harry and Meghan waited patiently.

In an article for the Daily Mail, Kaye highlighted how the manner and timing of the Sussexes’ arrival at St Paul’s illustrated the significant changes in their status since their move to California.

As non-working royals, they now find themselves relegated to the second division.

Although they were spared the embarrassment of sharing a coach with minor royals who also do not undertake official duties, such as Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of Princess Michael of Kent, they were only slightly ahead in the seating arrangement.

Kaye emphasized that it was a painful 19 minutes before William and Kate arrived to take their seats, driving home the reality of Harry’s new life.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who had traveled from California for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, were seated behind the Wessex family and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Cambridges occupied seats across the aisle.

To reach their places, Harry and Meghan had to navigate past Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, along with their husbands Eduardo Mapelli-Mossy and Jack Brooksbank, who were already seated.

The front row chairs were reserved for working royals, leaving no room for the Sussexes in the prime positions.

However, the couple did make a solo procession after the rest of the royals and before Charles and William.
