Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially vacated their UK residence, Frogmore Cottage, after being given an eviction notice by Prince Charles.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were asked to remove their belongings from the property on the Windsor estate, just weeks after Harry’s revealing memoir was published.

Sir Michael Stevens, the Keeper of the Privy Purse, has confirmed that the couple has returned the keys to their UK home.

Frogmore Cottage, a Grade 2 listed home, was gifted to Harry and Meghan by Queen Elizabeth II after their wedding.

The couple spent £2.4 million in 2018 to renovate the property through the Sovereign Grant, and have since repaid the entire cost.

This means that the property has been returned to the Crown as an enhanced asset.

Harry and Meghan resided at Frogmore Cottage for most of 2019, and have only visited the property a few times since moving to California to raise their two children, Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2.

Discussing Harry and Meghan’s loss of their last foothold in the UK, royal reporter Jack Royston suggested that it would make future visits to the country more complicated.

He noted that it severs a significant tie between them and England, which would add complexity to their return trips.

Frogmore Cottage offers genuine police security as it is situated on the private estate around Windsor Palace.

This not only provides a sanctuary from press intrusion and royal observers but also protects against terrorist attacks and assassination attempts.

Losing Frogmore Cottage would mean much more than losing a home for Harry and Meghan.

According to The Sun, the couple would now need to seek permission from Charles to stay in any royal homes in the future.

The Mail reported that Prince Charles is planning to extend a peace offering to the couple after Prince Harry participated in another interview with author Gaber Mate.

It is rumored that Prince Charles may offer Prince Harry and Meghan Markle an apartment in Buckingham Palace as their UK residence when they visit the country.

This development comes after Prince Charles instructed the couple to vacate their previous UK home, Frogmore Cottage, and handed it over to his brother, Prince Andrew.

The Mail reported that Prince Charles, though angry with Harry, is not a vindictive man.

He does not wish to see his brother Andrew homeless or destitute, nor does he want to deny the Sussexes a base in the UK.

London seems like a better fit for the Sussexes, who have always desired rooms at Buckingham Palace.

They could potentially occupy Andrew’s former rooms there, which are currently being cleared.

Royal insiders have previously suggested that Prince Charles’ decision to remove Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from Frogmore Cottage is related to the release of Harry’s memoir.

The Mail reported that Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are angered and weary by the revelations in Prince Harry’s book.

In the memoir, Prince Harry confirmed that his brother, Prince William, once physically attacked him and pushed him to the floor.

Prince Harry also accused Camilla of leaking stories to the press.

In a recent interview, Prince Harry expressed his commitment to ensuring that he protects his own children from any negative experiences or wounds, given his own upbringing.

It has been reported that Prince Charles III might offer the Duke and Duchess of Sussex an apartment in Buckingham Palace as their UK residence when they visit the country.

This follows Prince Harry’s participation in another interview with author Gaber Mate for readers of his memoir, Extra.

The set of rooms that the Prince might propose to Harry and Meghan were previously occupied by Prince Andrew, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Despite his anger towards Harry, Prince Charles is not a vindictive man and wishes to find a solution that accommodates everyone’s needs.
