After a tumultuous battle over a £2.4 million renovation, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been evicted from their residence at Frogmore Cottage.

The late Queen Elizabeth had bestowed the cottage upon the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but King Charles intervened, instructing them to vacate the property.

Following this directive, the couple has now left the five-bedroom house on their Windsor estate.

Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Private Purse, confirmed the news of their departure.

However, it remains uncertain as to who will occupy the cottage next.

Rumors suggest that the monarch intends to persuade his embattled brother, Prince Andrew, to downsize from his seven-bedroom royal home and move into Frogmore Cottage.

The conversion of the cottage, previously divided into flats for staff, into a suitable residence for Harry and Meghan, cost the British taxpayers £2.4 million.

After stepping down from their official royal duties, the couple repaid the money in a deal that also included several years’ worth of rent.

It remains unclear whether they were able to recover any portion of this sum following their eviction.

Sir Michael, the King’s chief financial adviser, stated, “We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage.

We shall not provide further details on these arrangements.

However, it is worth noting that, as previously mentioned, the Duke and Duchess covered the expenses associated with the renovation, thereby leaving the Crown with a significantly improved asset.”

Frogmore Cottage, purchased by Queen Victoria in the 19th century, is part of a taxpayer-funded estate within the occupied royal palaces.

Prince Andrew, who plans to renovate the royal lodge in the coming months, currently holds a 75-year lease on the 30-room home from the independent Crown Estate.

Reports suggest that the Prince is adamant about not leaving the residence he shares with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

An insider revealed earlier this year, “Andrew insists on staying at the royal lodge until his lease expires.

He will not move to Frogmore without a fight.

The royal lodge is his home, and he will do everything in his power to remain there.”

Following their departure from the royal family, Harry and Meghan established their new residence in Montecito, USA.

They now live there with their two children, four-year-old Prince Archie and two-year-old Princess Lilibet.

Despite this, Prince Harry reportedly spent three nights at Frogmore Cottage during a recent three-day visit, which the couple still considers their base in the UK.

During the Platinum Jubilee celebrations last June, Meghan and Harry chose to stay at home with their children, Archie and Lilibet.
