In a shocking turn of events at the 2023 Oscars, actress and director Elizabeth Banks found herself nearly tripped by a cocaine bear while presenting the award for best visual effects.

As she gracefully made her way onto the stage, Banks stumbled on the hem of her dress, only to be chased by the unexpected visitor.

Despite the mishap, Banks managed to maintain her composure and even apologized for her scratchy voice.

The incident unfolded as Banks presented the award alongside the bear’s director, who quickly intervened, shouting, “Put your paw down!”

The audience gasped in surprise as the bear retreated.

Banks took the opportunity to emphasize the significance of visual effects in filmmaking, citing her recent directorial venture, “Cocaine Bear,” as an example.

She explained that without visual effects, the bear in her film would have appeared terrifyingly realistic.

“No director wants to deal with this,” Banks exclaimed, clearly shaken by the experience.

However, she also took a moment to express her admiration for the advocacy work done by the March of Dimes, particularly their efforts on behalf of women and babies.

Banks revealed that she and her husband had been invited to visit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, thanks to the March of Dimes’ invitation.

The actress praised the organization’s incredible impact and shared her belief that her scratchy voice could enhance any story, making it a powerful tool for filmmakers like herself.

Returning to the main event, Banks announced the winner of the best visual effects category: “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

The film triumphed over tough competition from movies such as “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “The Batman,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and “Top Gun Maverick.”

In a recent interview, Banks spoke about her latest movie, which is based on a true story and features an ensemble cast including Kelly Russell, Alden Aaron Reek, Margot Martindale, Ashae Jackson Jr., Jessie Tyler Ferguson, and the late Ray Lee Otter.

She described the film as visually gory and gnarly, emphasizing her commitment to realism.

During the pitch for the movie, Banks shared her vision with the team, showcasing gruesome real-life photographs of individuals who had suffered severe injuries.
