Camilla’s Rejection Frustrates Meghan as She Seeks Royal Recognition for Archewell
Queen Consort Camilla’s Coronation Champions Awards, which celebrate Britain’s volunteers, have recently crowned 500 deserving individuals after receiving an overwhelming 5,000 nominations.
A panel of 20 judges convened in London yesterday to select the final award recipients from this staggering number of entries.
The Coronation Champions Awards, backed by the Mail, received double the expected number of nominations, demonstrating the nation’s strong support for recognizing and rewarding those who go above and beyond in their communities.
However, tensions arose when Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, learned about the awards.
She promptly contacted Catherine Johnstone, Chief Executive of the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), to recommend that Archewell, her and Prince Harry’s foundation, be considered for this prestigious recognition.

Unfortunately for Meghan, her request was swiftly denied by Queen Camilla, leaving her disheartened and reportedly in tears.
Both Meghan and Prince Charles were eager for the coronation to serve as an opportunity to honor the selfless volunteers who make a difference in their communities.
Queen Camilla, in collaboration with the RVS, designed the awards to celebrate and acknowledge the nation’s army of volunteers.
As a result, Meghan’s request to bestow the Coronation Champions Award on Archewell was deemed unreasonable and promptly rejected by Queen Camilla.
The 500 Coronation Champions will receive a special pin and a certificate signed by both King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Additionally, they will be granted tickets to either the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle on May 7 or a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
Dr. Eddie Hogg, a social policy lecturer at the University of Kent, meticulously reviewed the 5,000 entries and narrowed them down to 676 before the final 500 were selected by the judging panel, which included Charity Supremo Dame Julia Cleverdon and Chief Nursing Officer Dame Ruth May.
The winners will be individually notified over the next week, and their names will be published on the RVS website by the end of the month.
Some of the award recipients will also be featured in the Daily Mail.
The Coronation Champions Awards encompass eight categories: Older People and Dementia Support, Young People and Children, Crisis and Welfare, Community, Mental Health and Companionship, Physical Health and Disability, NHS and Social Care, and Sustainability the Environment.
Catherine Johnston, the Chief Executive of the Royal Voluntary Service, expressed the judges’ amazement at the stories shared by the entrants.
She emphasized that each entry deserved recognition or an award, as they shed light on the extraordinary efforts made by ordinary citizens to improve their communities.
Johnston commended King Charles and Queen Camilla for using their coronation to highlight the brilliance of these individuals, while also acknowledging the significant impact of the Daily Mail’s involvement in generating a high number of nominations.
Juliet Bovery, CEO of the Stroke Association, praised the award recipients as the bedrock of what makes Britain great.
At a time when the country feels divided and disheartened by politics and public services, these individuals are the ones who connect communities and make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
In related news, it has been confirmed that Prince Harry will attend his father’s coronation, while Meghan will remain in California with their two children to celebrate Archie’s fourth birthday, which coincides with May 6.
While Meghan’s decision is partly influenced by her son’s birthday, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams suggests that she would have attended if she believed it would benefit the Sussexes’ brand.
Friends of Meghan have indicated that her focus is now on her future in the United States, indicating that public events in Britain will take a back seat.
PR and brand expert Nick Ader believes that Meghan’s choice not to attend the coronation will have minimal negative impact on her global brand, particularly outside of the UK.
Eric Schiffer, Chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, also echoes this sentiment, stating that the repercussions of her absence will be negligible and primarily limited to the United Kingdom.

Despite Meghan Markle’s attempt to secure recognition for Archewell, her request was declined by Queen Camilla.
