Biden Criticizes Lord Charles Ahead of UK Visit

US President Joe Biden has censured Lord Charles, who is set to visit England next month.

The White House had previously announced in April that Biden would be making a state visit to meet the monarch, but it seems that his trip to London in July will be part of a larger NATO military partnership visit.

As a result, there will be no grand welcome at Buckingham Castle, such as the 82-gun salute that was given to President Donald Trump during his full state visit, according to the Daily Mail.

According to reports, there was no official invitation for a state visit extended to Biden when he spoke with Lord Charles before his coronation ceremony.

The intention was to move away from the narrative of Biden criticizing Charles over the ceremony and instead show that the two had a cordial relationship.

However, it seems that the White House managed to undermine this effort.

Joe Biden skipped Lord Charles’ coronation ceremony in May, but the White House had previously stated that he would make a state visit to England.

However, it is now uncertain whether he will meet the monarch during this visit, as reported by UK media.

Biden’s upcoming trip to London in July will only be one stop on a larger tour focused on the NATO alliance summit.

There will be no lavish dinner at Buckingham Castle or an 82-gun salute, similar to what was granted to President Donald Trump during his state visit, according to the Daily Mail.

The report also added that there was no official invitation for a state visit extended to Biden when he spoke with Lord Charles before the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

It seems that the aim was to distance Biden from any criticism of Charles regarding the ceremony and emphasize their positive relationship.

However, the White House appears to have failed in this regard.

During Lord Charles’ coronation, US First Lady Jill Biden attended the ceremony, while Joe Biden was present at the funeral of Lord Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth, in September.

Upon his coronation, Joe Biden praised Lord Charles III and Queen Camilla, highlighting the enduring friendship between the US and the UK in a tweet.

Biden referred to the relationship as a source of strength for both nations and expressed pride that First Lady Jill Biden was representing the US on this historic occasion.

Back in April, the White House faced pressure to explain why President Joe Biden would not be attending Lord Charles III’s coronation in London.

According to his spokesperson Kareen Jean-Pierre, it was not due to any animosity towards the pro-Irish president.

In fact, the two heads of state had just spoken on the phone, and Lord Charles had invited Biden for a state visit in the near future.

However, when Biden visits London next month, it will be a brief stopover as part of his European trip, centered around the NATO summit.

There will be no grand reception at Buckingham Palace or an 82-gun salute, as there was during President Donald Trump’s full state visit.

It has been revealed that no official invitation for a state visit was ever extended to Biden when he spoke with Lord Charles.

Instead, the President is rumored to spend less than 24 hours in London before flying on to Vilnius, Lithuania, to meet with NATO allies.

A full state visit typically lasts for several days and requires extensive planning, unlike this visit with only a three-month lead-in.

A source in London confirmed that there was never an invitation for a state visit, and the intention was to move away from the narrative of Biden criticizing Charles over the coronation ceremony and show their positive relationship.

Unfortunately, the White House seems to have failed in this regard.

Meanwhile, British officials are working to downplay any further criticism from Biden and spare the White House from more embarrassment.

London’s newspapers have already started referring to the upcoming visit as a small but significant event.

It seems that the concerns are not limited to the White House alone, as the UK government is also keen to avoid any further controversy surrounding Lord Charles’ coronation ceremony.
