Princess Diana was described by Prince William as “the most selfish woman he met.”

Prince William and Princess Diana had a strong bond before the late royal’s life was tragically cut short in a car accident.

We know that the Prince and Princess of Wales did not enjoy a happy marriage because of Andrew Morton’s book Diana: Her True Story, which was published in 1992. While it was thought that Diana was the source of the material in the book, Morton did not confirm this until after her tragic death in 1997.

Diana spoke frankly about the several ways she pleaded for help and her husband’s attention throughout their marriage, but to no effect. She stated that whatever she did would be dismissed by Charles as “crying wolf.” And, according to Diana, the Prince of Wales discussed some of her activities in front of their eldest son.

Diana recalls a brief moment when Prince William said something extremely distressing to her.

Trending:

“Once, William and I were in the swimming pool at Highgrove,” the princess remembered. “And William turned around to me and said: ‘You’re the most selfish woman I’ve ever met. All you do is think of yourself.’”

“I was so stunned,” Diana revealed. “I mean, this is (in 1985, when William was 3 years old). I said: ‘Where did you hear that?’” To which the younger prince replied, “Oh, I’ve often heard Papa saying it.”

Following the death of his mother, William married Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and the couple had three children. Prince George was born in 2013, Princess Charlotte in 2015, and Prince Louis in 2018.

Although Diana never met her grandkids, William believes he knows what kind of grandmother she would be and why it would have been a “nightmare” for him and his wife.

Prior to the birth of Prince Louis, the Duke of Cambridge discussed how his mother might have interacted with Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

“She’d be a nightmare grandmother, absolute nightmare,” William said in the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, adding, “She’d love the children to bits, but she’d be an absolute nightmare. She’d come, probably at bath time, cause an amazing scene, bubbles everywhere, bathwater all over the place, and then leave.”

Prince William is the second in line to the throne after his father Prince Charles
