Prince Harry calls out the BBC’s Martin Bashir interview with Princess Diana
In a harsh denunciation of the BBC, Prince William stated that Martin Bashir’s interview with Princess Diana fostered her “fear, paranoia, and isolation” in the latter years of her life and harmed her relationship with the Prince of Wales.
After an investigation discovered the BBC covered up journalist Bashir’s “deceptive behavior” in securing his headline-making 1995 interview with their mother, the enraged brothers delivered scathing remarks about the broadcaster’s activities.
The Duke of Sussex blamed his mother’s death on a poisonous media culture.
Prince Harry added in a second statement that his mother’s death was caused by the “ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices”
Such activities “are still widespread today” he said, adding that it was “bigger than one outlet, one network or one publication”

“Our mother lost her life because of this, and nothing has changed. By protecting her legacy, we protect everyone, and uphold the dignity with which she lived her life,” he stated
As the explosion radius from Lord Dyson’s six-month probe into the interview continues to increase, Prince Harry issued a statement saying, “Our mother was an incredible woman who dedicated her life to service.” “She was resilient, brave and unquestionably honest. The ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices ultimately took her life.”
The Duke of Sussex, who is sixth in line to the British throne and lives in California, said, ased Duke of Sussex continued: “To those who have taken some form of accountability, thank you for owning it. That is the first step towards justice and truth. Yet what deeply concerns me is that practices like these — and even worse — are still widespread today. Then, and now, it’s bigger than one outlet, one network, or one publication. Our mother lost her life because of this, and nothing has changed.
“By protecting her legacy, we protect everyone, and uphold the dignity with which she lived her life. Let’s remember who she was and what she stood for.”
According to Lord Dyson’s investigation, the BBC covered up Bashir’s deception and “fell short of high standards of integrity and transparency”.
When the journalist fabricated financial records and handed them to Earl Spencer, Diana’s brother, to obtain access to the princess in 1995, he was in “serious breach” of the BBC’s producer rules, according to the investigation.
The BBC has written to the royal family to express its regret for the circumstances surrounding Diana’s interview, in which she said: “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” referring to Camilla Parker Bowles, whom Charles subsequently married.
