Meaning of Princess Diana’s statue
On what would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday, Prince William and Prince Harry unveiled a bronze statue of her.
Kensington Palace stated that the new Princess Diana statue contains a unique element that refers to a prior tribute for the late princess.
The statue, according to Kensington Palace, seeks to represent “the warmth, elegance and energy of Diana, Princess of Wales” as well as her work and the “impact she had on so many people”
A pedestal under Princess Diana’s statue is inscribed with Diana’s name and the date of the unveiling.
A paving stone in front of the monument is inscribed with an excerpt from the poem “The Measure of a Man,” which was also included in the program for the Princess’s memorial ceremony in 2007.

The excerpt reads as follows:
“These are the units to measure the worth
Of this woman as a woman regardless of birth.
Not what was her station?
But had she a heart?
How did she play her God-given part?”
The poem’s origin is unknown, but the popular lines are often recited at funerals to honor a loved one who has died.
According to the palace’s statement, the identical poem was used at a program honoring the 10th anniversary of Diana’s death in August 2007. “William and I can separate life into two parts,” Prince Harry, then 22, said in a speech during that event. “There were those years when we were blessed with the physical presence beside us of both our mother and father. And then there are the 10 years since our mother’s death. When she was alive, we completely took for granted her unrivaled love of life, laughter, fun and folly. She was our guardian, friend and protector.”
Despite their recent rift, Prince William and Prince Harry issued a joint statement on the statue: “Today, on what would have been our Mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and characters — qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better. Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.”
A memorial ceremony was conducted in 2007 to commemorate Diana’s death on the tenth anniversary of her death, and approximately 500 people attended.
During a ceremony on Thursday, Harry, 36, and Prince William presented the bronze tribute. Her siblings, Charles Spencer, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Lady Jane Fellowes, all attended the ceremony. Prince Charles was not present.
Princess Diana seemed to enjoy a luxurious life, attending black tie events and parties all over the globe until her untimely death in 1997. When she wasn’t spending time with her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, or supporting different organizations near and dear to her heart, she allegedly preferred a peaceful night at home resting in front of the television.
Diana’s sons collaborated with a committee comprising her sisters, friends, specialists, and charity workers to create the ideal memorial. The sculpture, made by Ian Rank-Broadley, will be displayed at Kensington Palace’s newly refurbished Sunken Garden, where some of the Princess of Wales’ favorite flowers have been planted.
