Kate Winslet refused offer to edit sex scene showing ‘Bulgy’ Belly
Kate Winslet claims she refused to have a sex scene in her current series edited to cover a “bulgy bit of belly.”
Craig Zobel, the director of the blockbuster new HBO series, allegedly offered to showcase her body in a more favourable light during an intimate scene, according to the Oscar-winning actor, 45.
In a recent interview with The New York Times (via Insider), Kate Winslet confessed that she resisted many attempts to make her character on HBO’s “Mare of Easttown” look more appealing.
Winslet, who portrays a detective and grandmother Mare Sheehan in the show, said she had refused and warned Zobel, “Don’t you dare[edit the scene].”
Winslet also objected to changes made to the advertising poster, sending it back twice because she believed it was too altered.

“I’m like: ‘Guys, I know how many lines I have by the side of my eye, please put them all back,’” Winslet told the New York Times.
“I said to my husband [Edward Abel Smith]: ‘Am I OK with that? Is it all right that I’m playing a middle-aged woman who is a grandmother who does really make a habit of having one-night stands?’ He’s like: ‘Kate, it’s great.’”
“Listen, I hope that in playing Mare as a middle-aged woman – I will be 46 in October – I guess that’s why people have connected with this character in the way that they have done because there are clearly no filters,” the actor said.
“She’s a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face that moves in a way that is synonymous with her age and her life and where she comes from. I think we’re starved of that a bit.”
Bringing the most authenticity to Mare’s persona also involved shopping for her clothing at Wawa and keeping all of Mare’s stuff crumpled up in a mound on the floor of her trailer so that all of her garments seemed realistically old and wrinkled. “Whenever we’d find something unflattering we’d be jumping up and down like, ‘Yes! We’re wearing this.’” Winslet said.
However, Winslet stated that she may not feel “comfortable” with another naked moment.
“It’s not even really an age thing, actually,” she said. “There comes a point where people are going to go: ‘Oh, here she goes again.’”
Winslet also admitted that she needed reassurance from her hubby about the assignment.
“In episode one, she’s having sex on a couch. I said to my husband: ‘Am I OK with that? Is it all right that I’m playing a middle-aged woman who is a grandmother who does really make a habit of having one-night stands?’ He’s like: ‘Kate, it’s great.’”
In the moment in question, Winslet is half clad while with love interest Richard Ryan.
Mare of Easttown has captivated audiences all around the world.
Many admirers believe Winslet will win several Oscars for her performance.
