We’re guessing that not everyone feels the same way about self-love.

A s-x scene shown in Sunday’s second episode, as well as the original novel, left viewers of HBO’s adaptation of “The Time Traveler’s Wife” “disturbed” and “haunted.”

Henry (Theo James) reveals to love interest Clare (Rose Leslie) how his father discovered his time-traveling talents in episode two of the HBO drama, which is based on Audrey Niffenegger’s book of the same name.

The scene switches to an embarrassing flashback of Henry (Brian Altemus) as a 16-year-old receiving oral s-x from his teenage self after traveling back in time.

The current and future versions of Henry are n-ked in bed together when their father sees them in the act. The cringe-worthy moment, which Niffenegger had first detailed in her 2003 book, elicited mixed reactions from viewers.

Many people thought the sequence was terrible, including Meghan O’Keefe of Decider, who said in her review:

“I can’t quite put my finger on why the scene is so disturbing, but it will haunt me for the rest of my goddamn life.”

Others resorted to social media to voice their opinions about the scenario.

“I owned and read ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ for many years and the way I courageously blocked out any memory of this scene,” one user wrote.

Another person stated: “The Time Traveller’s Wife is truly wild. Just straight up jumping from an incredibly depressing scene to ‘Of course I time travelled to suck myself off, wouldn’t you?’.”

Another Twitter user said: “THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE on HBO Max continues to impress, aside from one disturbing-but-brief scene (that does makes some sense story-wise, despite its shudder-inducing ickyness).

Another user noted, “The Time Traveler’s Wife” having selfcest was not on my 2022 bingo card.

Some viewers, on the other hand, claimed that the film had inspired them to watch the show.

“I had no intention of watching The Time Traveler’s Wife on HBO Max but then I saw this clip where the lead character goes back in time to give himself head and now I’m like…. maaaybe they have some good ideas I should check out?” one viral tweet read.
