Spotify Ends Lucrative Deal with Duke and Duchess of Sussex for Podcast Production

Spotify, the streaming giant, has officially ended its deal with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for the production of podcasts.

The couple’s company and Spotify released a joint statement announcing that they had mutually agreed to part ways.

The announcement confirmed that Meghan’s podcast, Archetypes, which ran for 12 episodes from August 2022, would not be renewed for a second series.

The contract was initially estimated to be worth £18 million in late 2020 when the deal was first announced.

Before the launch of Archetypes, the print said it would bring forward different perspectives and voices that listeners may not have heard before.

However, it seems that the show failed to deliver on its promise, as evident from the lack of traffic and interest it generated.

In a recent interview, Meghan admitted that she found the citizenship exam extremely difficult and was surprised by the level of complexity it entailed.

She expressed her disappointment that the show was being canceled and how much she enjoyed hosting it.

Many fans of the podcast are also saddened by the news.

Rupert Bell, Talk Radio’s Royal Correspondent, shared his thoughts on the matter, stating that the show could have been great if Meghan had focused more on her guests, especially A-listers like Serena Williams.

He added that he could see how the show could have been genuinely interesting, given Serena’s life story and the drive that she showed to get to the top and continue playing into her 30s.

However, the show failed to deliver the level of insight that sports fans and enthusiasts were looking for, despite the presence of global icons like Mariah Carey.

The lack of engagement and genuine interest in the content was evident, leading to the cancellation of the show.

Spotify’s chief executive made a mistake by splashing the cash on celebrities without considering the quality of their content and the value it brings to their listeners.

Many people rely on podcasts for entertainment and engagement, especially during their commutes or daily routines.

However, making good content is never easy, and it requires a genuine interest and passion for the subject matter.

Harry and Meghan’s company will need to produce quality content that brings forth the voices of other people rather than making themselves part of the story.

The archetypes podcast was bland, and Sarah Ferguson’s recent production was no different, according to Rupert Bell.

People want to feel that they are getting something out of the content they consume, instead of hearing vacuous chat for half an hour.

It is essential to work harder and produce quality content that engages listeners and provides value.

In conclusion, Spotify’s decision to end its deal with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for podcast production was mutual, given the lack of interest and engagement in their content.

The cancellation of Archetypes was a significant blow to Meghan and her fans, but it also serves as a lesson for celebrities and businesses that producing quality content is essential for success.

Harry and Meghan’s company must focus on bringing forth the voices of other people and producing engaging content that resonates with their listeners.
