Prince Harry Attends US Army Warrior Games, Faces Backlash for Speaking at Closing Ceremony

Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at the US Army Recovery Care Program’s Warrior Games in San Diego, California on Monday.

The event, which celebrated the resilience of wounded and injured service members, marked Harry’s first public appearance since his recent legal battle against Mirror Group newspapers in the UK.

During his visit, the Duke of Sussex spent time with athletes and their families, watched the sitting volleyball finals, and made a speech at the closing ceremony.

The US Army Recovery Care Program expressed gratitude to Prince Harry for his support, writing on Instagram, “Thank you, Duke of Sussex Prince Harry, for all you do to help our wounded, ill, and injured service members.”

However, not everyone welcomed Harry’s presence at the event.

As he delivered his speech, some veterans in the audience booed him, expressing their disapproval of his involvement.

Following the event, the US Army ARCP posted a tweet accompanied by a photo of Prince Harry, thanking him for his contributions.

The tweet sparked outrage on Twitter, with many users criticizing the decision to allow Harry to speak at a military event.

One Twitter user, Jenny’s phone, wrote angrily, “This is so wrong.

Get him away from our soldiers.”

Another user, Manclass, questioned why Americans would accept a British prince, who they believed disliked the American way of life, dictating their thoughts and emotions.

The backlash continued as users voiced their concerns about Harry’s character and motives.

Arch Snipes commented, “Shameful tweet.

What has he ever done?

Do a deep dive into his charity and quit forcing this traitor to his country on us.”

Gilly on Twitter expressed her disappointment, stating, “Disgraceful that you’re giving this foreign duke a voice within our military organizations.”

The comments reflected a sentiment that Harry, as a non-American citizen, should not have been given a platform to address veterans.

The criticism centered on Harry’s alleged drug abuse, his book in which he disclosed his “kill count,” and his marriage to Meghan Markle.

Some users accused him of using the military event as a PR stunt to avoid deportation, while others argued that he represented the foreign power from which America fought for independence.

Despite the negative reception, there were also comments defending Harry and expressing appreciation for his efforts to support wounded service members.

The Warrior Games, now in its 13th year, is an annual event that showcases the resilience of injured US military personnel from all branches.

It bears similarities to Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, which he established in 2014.

Both events provide opportunities for wounded servicemen and women to compete internationally.

The next Invictus Games is scheduled for September 2023.

In April 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the Invictus Games in the Netherlands, marking their third appearance together at the event.

The Games had been canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The couple’s support for these events demonstrates their commitment to highlighting the strength and determination of wounded veterans.

While Prince Harry’s participation in the Warrior Games aimed to honor and uplift service members, his decision to speak at the closing ceremony sparked controversy.

The backlash on social media reflected a deep respect for American service members and an expectation that Harry should not interfere in their affairs.

As opinions continue to clash, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact Prince Harry’s future engagements with military organizations.
