Netflix Tightens Policy on Working with Harry and Meghan: No Work, No Pay

In a bold move, Netflix has tightened its policy on working with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, demanding that they produce successful content in order to receive payment.

This comes after a series of embarrassing revelations about the couple’s financial dealings have come to light.

One such revelation is that Taylor Swift declined an invitation from Meghan Markle to appear on her podcast Archetypes.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Swift declined through a representative, adding to the growing list of setbacks for the royal couple.

Earlier this month, Spotify canceled its agreement with Harry and Meghan after just one season of Markle’s podcast.

Bill Simmons, a podcaster and executive at Spotify, publicly called them “fucking grifters” as they left.

Now, it seems that the couple’s second significant business engagement with Netflix could also be in jeopardy.

According to The Sun, their six-part docuseries was the most-watched documentary on Netflix ever.

However, Netflix is not willing to pay them the additional $51 million they are due under their contract unless they continue to produce successful content.

An industry source quoted by the UK newspaper said, “Netflix was pleased to sign Harry and Meghan and is looking for some great ideas going forward, but the remainder of the deal depends on them producing those good ideas.

The contract is always being reviewed, which is typical for deals of this size.”

There are concerns about the couple’s ability to produce programming that doesn’t revolve around their own royal drama.

A recent investigation by the Saturday Journal into their Hollywood flop, Archwell, revealed that the production business often lacks direction and that its owners seem surprised by the amount of work required to complete entertainment initiatives.

While there have been a few non-autobiographical Netflix productions by the couple, such as the documentary series Live to Lead and a documentary on the sports competition organized by Harry, The Invictus Games, they have not been well-received.

Additionally, a program based on the character Miss Havisham from Great Expectations is being created, but it is uncertain if Netflix will approve the project.

Other TV plans proposed by the couple, including a sitcom and a family-friendly program about LGBT characters, were declined by Netflix.

It seems that their lack of success in pitching ideas has put their future with the streaming giant in doubt.

The article also highlighted Harry’s suggestion to Spotify for a podcast humanizing figures damaging society.

He considered topics such as false information, his perspective as a foreigner in America, and even a program with comedian Hasan Minhaj.

However, none of these ideas materialized.

It’s unclear whether the fault lies with the couple or with the CEOs of Netflix and Spotify.

Some argue that it was unrealistic to expect Harry, who grew up in a royal bubble, and Meghan, a former star of USA Network’s Suits, to produce relevant TV and radio content.

Perhaps the promises of unfettered access to the royal family’s lives and residences were too ambitious.

As the couple’s contract with Netflix expires in 2025, it remains to be seen if the streaming giant will extend their partnership.

With their previous TV plans failing and no new material in sight, the future looks uncertain for Harry and Meghan in the entertainment industry.

Overall, the consequences for Netflix after collaborating with Harry and Meghan seem to be a mixed bag.

While their docuseries was a hit, there are doubts about the couple’s ability to produce successful content that doesn’t revolve around their own royal drama.

As their contract hangs in the balance, it remains to be seen if Netflix will continue to invest in the Sussexes’ ventures.
