Millie Bobby Brown on being sexualized since 18th birthday

Millie Bobby Brown, the actress known for her role in the hit show “Stranger Things,” has recently spoken out about the sexualization she has faced since officially turning 18.

In a recent interview on the podcast “The Guilty Feminist,” she discussed the overwhelming reactions and “gross” comments that have come with her reaching adulthood.

Before her 18th birthday, fans began to notice dedicated Reddit threads appearing, specifically dedicated to “NSFW” content about the actress.

There was even a countdown to her birthday when a supposed Reddit page would be opened and “sexual pictures of Millie” would be available.

The Reddit page, which had 6,000 members, has now reportedly been banned after fans of the actress reported it.

Despite the page being banned, Millie has still had to face the reality of the sexualization she has experienced.

“It’s really overwhelming. I have definitely been dealing with that more in the last couple of weeks of turning 18,” she explained.

“I’m definitely seeing a difference between the way people act and the way the press and social media react to me coming of age. It’s gross.”

This sexualization is not a new experience for Millie, as she has been in the spotlight since the age of 12 and has grown up in front of the camera.

She has faced criticism for supposedly wearing outfits that are deemed “too grown up” for her.

On the podcast, she hit back at these criticisms, stating, “I thought is this really what we should be talking about? We should be talking about the incredible people that were there at the awards show, the talent that was there, the people we are representing.”

Despite the challenges she has faced, Millie emphasized that she is just a normal teenage girl.

“I deal with the same things any 18-year-old is dealing with, navigating being an adult and having relationships and friendships, and it’s all of those things.”

“Being liked and trying to fit in, it’s all a lot, and you’re trying to [know] yourself while doing that. The only difference is obviously I’m doing that in the public eye.”

This is not the first time that Millie has spoken out about the challenges that come with being a young woman in the entertainment industry.

She has previously discussed the pressure to conform to societal beauty standards and the impact that this can have on self-esteem and mental health.
