Meghan’s Oprah Winfrey interview and Diana’s interview with Martin Bashir have some crucial discrepancies, according to Pauline Maclaren, author of Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture.

According to the royal specialist, Meghan Markle’s explosive conversation with Oprah Winfrey cannot be compared to Princess Diana’s.

The Mirror quoted her as saying: “I don’t think the [Meghan and Harry] interview can be really rated in a similar way to the Diana interview, which really turned the public very much against the royal family here.

“When Diana did her interviews, that was after they had suffered many other things during that period, so that was a sort of culminating scandal or the culmination of a series of scandals, really.

Another significant distinction is their rank, with Diana speaking out as Princess of Wales and potential Queen, whereas Meghan is married to a junior royal who is way down the line to the throne.

Pauline has argued that Diana was the mother of the future monarch, while Meghan had already abandoned the royal family before they spoke out.

The Duchess of Sussex’s comments regarding her tenure in the Royal Family with Prince Harry before they all abandoned their roles and relocated to California have caused a lot of backlash.

Although many have drawn comparisons between Meghan and Harry’s mother Diana, author and royal biographer Pauline Maclaren stated in 1995 that they are not similar due to Meghan and Diana’s respective position in the Royal Family at the time.

Diana’s controversial interview on BBC’s Panorama had a greater effect on audiences in the UK since she was the ‘People’s Princess,’ while Meghan was more prominent in the US and her revelations have been met with a wall of criticism, according to Pauline.

In an interview with E! News, Pauline said: “Harry and Meghan are slightly more peripheral.

“Diana was central in that she would have been expected to be queen had she stayed married to Prince Charles and is more connected with the immediate heir to the throne.

“Harry is not an immediate heir to the throne and they have left.”

“Meghan hasn’t been around as long as Diana and she’s not the mother of future kings,” Pauline said.

During their explosive Oprah Winfrey chat, Piers Morgan said Meghan and Harry lied or exaggerated 17 times.

The former host of Good Morning Britain maintained that he was correct not to believe the Duchess of Sussex during her Oprah interview, claiming that 17 of her allegations were false.

Piers, 56, was fired from his ITV morning show last month after sharing reservations about her bombshell claims.
