Meghan Markle: Exploring Her Identity and Ethnicity

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has always been conscious of her ethnicity, according to a former co-star from the hit TV show Suits.

In a recent episode of the Toure show podcast, actor Malcolm Jamal Warner discussed his career and shed light on Meghan’s attitude towards her background.

This revelation comes after social media users discovered an online profile from 2013 that listed Meghan as a Caucasian supermodel, leading to speculation about her own input in these details.

A tweet posted on December 10th, 2022, brought attention to Meghan Markle’s self-listing as a Caucasian supermodel.

Although the profile image was recently shared, it seems to have been circulating online for several years.

Newsweek found the earliest example of this image on Twitter in 2019.

The website where Meghan’s profile is featured still identifies her as Caucasian.

Adding more insight into Meghan’s perspective, Malcolm Jamal Warner, who worked with her on Suits, discussed her approach to ethnicity during his conversation with Toure on the podcast.

Warner, best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, revealed that he didn’t have many scenes with Meghan but knew her through his best friend, Chris, who worked as a stage manager on Deal or No Deal, a game show Meghan participated in as a briefcase model in 2006.

Meghan has expressed conflicting feelings about her time as a model on the show.

While appreciative of having a job while auditioning for acting roles, she later acknowledged that the focus on appearance in modeling helped her realize her true aspirations.

Toure asked Warner if he knew Meghan was black, to which he replied affirmatively.

Warner emphasized that Meghan was aware of her own identity, noting that instead of responding with “I know,” she confidently stated, “she knows.”

In a Netflix docuseries, Harry and Meghan, Meghan shared her experiences growing up as a biracial woman in the United States.

She explained that while she was treated differently due to her race when she moved to the UK, people in America didn’t initially categorize her as a woman of color.

However, the scrutiny of her ethnicity became more pronounced after her relationship with Prince Harry became public.

When Meghan met Prince Harry on a blind date in London in 2016, she had already been playing the role of paralegal Rachel Zane on Suits for five years.

Eventually, as her relationship with the prince grew serious, she left the show after seven seasons.

Meghan Markle’s journey has been marked by her awareness of her ethnic background and the complexities that come with it.

While she has faced challenges and scrutiny, she remains steadfast in her identity and continues to navigate the intricacies of being a public figure with grace and resilience.
