Meghan, Harry, Joe Biden, and Selena Gomez to Appear in Star-studded Concert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will appear at a star-studded concert to promote Covid vaccine access.

The evening of Saturday, May 8 will be a star-studded affair in honor of a worthy cause. Vax Live: Global Citizen is bringing together a slew of big stars. The Concert to Reunite the World aims to raise public trust in vaccinations by promoting global, equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.

The A-list activity has Harry and Meghan as “campaign chairs.” On Saturday, May 8, the festival, hosted by Selena Gomez and organized by Global Citizen, will include musical performances by personalities from the worlds of film and politics, as well as performances by Jennifer Lopez, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, J Balvin, and HER.

“I’m honored to be hosting ‘VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World,'” Gomez said. “This is a historic moment to encourage people around the world to take the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to them, call on world leaders to share vaccine doses equitably and to bring people together for a night of music in a way that hasn’t felt possible in the past year. I can’t wait to be a part of it I’m excited to be a part of it.”

As part of their “We Can Do This” national campaign to improve adoption of the COVID-19 vaccine, US President Joe Biden will attend the concert, which will have a special message from First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

The broadcast special seeks to raise funds for Covax, a non-profit organization that works to deliver vaccinations to low- and middle-income countries.

“Over the past year, our world has experienced pain, loss, and struggle – together,” the Sussexes said in a statement. “Now we need to recover and heal – together. We can’t leave anybody behind. We will all benefit, we will all be safer, when everyone, everywhere has equal access to the vaccine.”

“We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution and, in that, restore faith in our common humanity. The mission couldn’t be more critical or important.”

The show will include Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, David Letterman, Gayle King, Jimmy Kimmel, Nomzamo Mbatha, Olivia Munn, and Sean Penn.

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Croatian prime minister, Andrej Plenkovi, are all expected to make appearances, according to the organizers.

Governments are being urged to contribute to vaccine equity by donating doses and money, according to Vax Live.

Businesses are being encouraged to “donate dollars for doses” and health firms are being urged to allow vaccinations affordable at non-profit rates.

Vax Live was advertised as having “big names and an even bigger message” in a promo. It will be taped at SoFi stadium in Los Angeles and shown on ABC, CBS, and iHeartMedia radio stations on May 8th.

Harry and Meghan have been urging the business sector to donate to the Covax program, which is co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and seeks to ensure vaccinations are spread equally among all countries, wealthy and poor, in their capacity as campaign chairs.

The news comes amid demands for the United States to hand over 60 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to India as part of a global effort to combat the virus. The United States reported on Monday that 60 million doses of the vaccine would be eligible for export until it was accepted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
