Jason Sudeikis says he doesn’t understand Olivia Wilde split
While actress Olivia Wilde has clearly moved on from her split from Jason Sudeikis with former One Direction member Harry Styles , the actor has finally broken his silence, publicly talking about him and Wilde ending their relationship.
Jason is the August cover star of GQ magazine, and he told the publication in an interview that he still doesn’t understand how his romance with actor-director Olivia Wilde ended.
He also discussed the success of the second season of Apple TV’s Ted Lasso, as well as his personal connection to the show.
In November 2020, the SNL actor informed GQ’s Zach Baron that he and Wilde split up following a seven-year engagement; photographs of Wilde and Harry Styles strolling hand in hand at a wedding appeared in January 2021.

He revealed that he was at “rock bottom” after the split.
He and the director of “Booksmart,” with whom he shares two children, seven-year-old Otis and four-year-old Daisy, were together for seven years.
“I’ll have a better understanding of why in a year, and an even better one in two, and an even better one in five,” the actor remarked, “and it’ll go from being a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle.”
Styles and Wilde have been sighted together on several occasions. Page Six revealed photos of the couple kissing aboard a yacht in Italy in July. Styles met Wilde on the set of her second directorial attempt, “Don’t Worry Darling,” a physiological thriller directed by Wilde and starring Styles and Florence Pugh, according to People magazine, and the two have been spending time together since.
While Sudeikis has had an eventful year — he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his leading role in Ted Lasso (for which he was also nominated for an Emmy) in which he plays an American football coach leading a professional football team in England despite his lack of experience — the comedian is still trying to figure out what the end of his relationship means in the grand scheme of life’s lessons.
“I was neither high nor heartbroken,” the 45-year-old said in the interview regarding his public breakup. ” So yeah, it came off like, ‘This is how I feel. I believe in moving forward.‘”
“That’s an experience that you either learn from or make excuses about. You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavor to learn something beyond the obvious from it,” he continued.
When Sudeikis’ Apple TV+ sitcom “Ted Lasso” launched in August 2020, people immediately saw parallels between the actor’s own life and his upbeat character.
Sudeikis showed up to the Golden Globes’ virtual event a month after his breakup from Wilde in a fairly casual outfit, donning a tie-dye sweatshirt that had some onlookers scratching their heads. “I wore that hoodie because I didn’t wanna f–king wear the f–king top half of a Tom Ford suit. I love Tom Ford suits, but it felt weird as s–t,” he explained to GQ.
People joked that Sudeikis’ outfit was due to the stress of his public divorce, and images of him were quickly converted into memes.
Sudeikis acknowledged the connection to his real-life friendship with Wilde, who helped him come up with the concept for “Ted Lasso.”
When asked if his personal life will eventually imitate his work, he said, “I wonder if that’s true. I mean, isn’t that just a little bit of what Oprah was telling us for years and years? You know, manifestation? Power of thought? That’s ‘The Secret’ in reverse, you know?”
