Elon Musk reacts to ex Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s trial

On Thursday, Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against Amber Heard came to a close, and it was time for some people to speak up, including Elon Musk.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to a tweet from podcast presenter Lex Fridman, who shared his thoughts on the trial. Five bullet points were presented by the podcast presenter, who is also a research scientist at MIT and has 1.4 million Twitter followers.

“1. Fame is one hell of a drug (for some). 2. Psychiatrists & lawyers come in drastically varying levels of skill. 3. Lying to millions of people is something humans are capable of. 4. Love can be messy. 5. Mega pint of wine,” the tweet read.

Musk retweeted the message on Friday night, stating, “I hope they both move on. At their best, they are each incredible.”

In Fairfax County Circuit Court, Depp is suing Heard for libel for an op-ed she published in The Washington Post in December 2018, identifying herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” His lawyers claim the story defamed him despite the fact that his name was never stated.

Millions of people have watched the trial thanks to the cameras in the courtroom, and interest seemed to grow as the weeks passed and both Depp and Heard spoke about the horrific facts of their relationship. Depp’s admirers have massively dominated the narrative online and at the courthouse, with groupies lining up overnight to get one of the few spots in the courtroom and wave at him as he walks in and out. Spectators on the street have booed Heard as she enters and exits the courthouse.

Mr Musk, along with other celebrities, was once considered to be a witness in the case. In the end, though, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO did not testify.

After her breakup from Johnny Depp, Elon Musk and Amber Heard had a brief romance. After a year of dating, Musk and Heard broke up in 2017. The couple rekindled their love in 2018, but after a few months, they gave up on one other.

During the trial, Depp, 58, accused the Aquaman actress of dating Musk “no later than one month after” she and Depp married in 2015.

Despite their brief relationship, Musk became embroiled in Heard’s defamation case, particularly when Terence Dougherty, the ACLU’s Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel, testified that Musk had given $500,000 on Heard’s behalf.

Musk, who was first named as a potential witness but never testified, was recently mentioned when Depp returned to the witness stand. In a series of text exchanges produced in court, the actor referred to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk as “mollusk.” Depp wrote in one text, “Let’s see if mollusk has a pair… Come see me face to face…. I’ll show him things he’s never seen before…. Like, the other side of his d**k when I slice it off.”

Ms. Heard testified about meeting Mr. Musk at the 2016 Met Gala after her husband, Mr. Depp, “stood me up” on the red carpet.

The legal teams for Heard and Depp have rested their cases, and each side has made their closing arguments. The jury began deliberations on Friday afternoon, but they were over in less than two hours. They’ll continue deliberations after the holiday on Tuesday.
