Will Smith shares shirtless photo, Says He’s in the ‘Worst Shape’ of His Life

Will Smith is demonstrating that he can handle just about anything with a positive attitude.

The Bad Boys for Life actor, 52, tweeted a shirtless selfie of himself on Sunday, noting on how he isn’t in the best shape right now. He captioned the photo, which showed him wearing an unzipped jacket and a pair of short shorts, with, “I’m gonna be real wit yall – I’m in the worst shape of my life.”

The actor was waving with his right hand, as if he was having a discussion with someone who wasn’t pictured.

“You look good!” Amy Schumer wrote in response to Smith.

Nia Long, a co-star on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, wrote, “You still got it baby!!!”

“This is the most amazing post in the history of social media,” Questlove said. “Same [crying while laughing and praise hands] live your best life,” Jenni “JWoww” Farley wrote.

“I see no ‘worst’ here,” Ava DuVernay wrote. “Hahahhahahaha that face [it] fits the caption so well,” Steve Aoki wrote.

Fans know that the actor is well-versed in the art of staying in shape. In order to play legendary boxer Muhammad Ali in the movie Ali, the actor underwent a major bodily alteration in 2001. In his 2007 film I Am Legend, Smith flaunted his sculpted abs while doing pull-ups.

After spending so many years in peak movie star shape, Smith has previously expressed his nervousness about showing himself shirtless.

The Philadelphia native has spoken openly about his desire to get in shape for his film roles. He talks about his career-defining naked moment in 1995’s Bad Boys in January 2020.

“For this scene, I wanted to have my shirt on, and Michael [Bay] was like, ‘Dude, I’m going to make you a freaking movie star, take your shirt off,’” Smith explained during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon at the time. “And I was like, ‘Michael, come on man,’ and he was like, ‘Dude, you don’t know, I know!’”

He told Men’s Journal in an interview about his 2016 film Suicide Squad that his training program was so severe that he tore a thigh muscle during the early phases of filming.

Will revealed, “I knew from the very beginning that this was going to be a big movie for me.” He said that the injury was “really scary,” but that it wasn’t enough to deter him from continuing to work on his body.

At the time, the Aladdin actor said, “When you’re 47 years old, no injury is a mild injury anymore. I was stepping back to throw a blow, and my calf popped. Everyone heard it. The doctor there told me that I was going to be down for six weeks, but I couldn’t allow that.”

Smith is now working on Emancipation, a play based on the actual story of a fugitive slave in 1863.

Smith and director Antoine Fuqua said earlier this month that they were pulling the film’s production out of Georgia due to the state’s new voting restrictions.

The entertainer got candid about his alcohol usage and weight while preparing for a half-marathon in 2019 in his Facebook Watch series “Bucket List.”

“I think of all the bucket lists, this is the one I’m most concerned about. Like, in my deepest honesty with myself, I really am not sure if I can run 13 miles,” he admitted. “Being this far out of shape is kind of a little bit new for me. I didn’t drink for over a decade.”

“During my rise as a movie star, I was, like, wildly disciplined, so being in this place in my life, even something as simple as taking my shirt off while I’m out of shape, like, you know, this for me now allowing myself to be seen less than optimally is new,” Will added.
