Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have been close friends for a long time. Following the 1997 Titanic filming, they became quite close. And even though they never got together romantically, their friendship still ranks among Hollywood’s most sincere bonds.

Winslet, however, found it difficult to kiss her BFF in Revolutionary Road despite their undying love for one another.

The movie, which stars Winslet and DiCaprio, was released in the United States on December 26, 2008. It is a Sam Mendes-directed romantic drama. The actress was married to Mendes at the time of the shoot.

The reason Kate, 33, felt embarrassed was more so because neither Sam nor Leo seemed to be in the least way upset.

“I was like, ‘Is it just me who feels a bit weird about this? You know. My friend. My husband’.

“But it was just me. There’s this amazing still that was taken on set of Leo and me kissing, and Sam is in the background.”

“You can see this look of absolute intensity on his face and I knew all he was thinking about at that moment was the frame of the shot.”

Winslet claims that she and Leo share a particular connection on screen.

“Leo’s friendship is a major thing in my life. It’s a big relationship. We met when we were very young and did this incredible film (Titanic) which changed both our lives, but the best thing to come out of it was this friendship,” she continued.

Nicki Swift said that because of how uncomfortable her kissing sequences with DiCaprio were, she “couldn’t stand” them. Why? The movie’s director at the time, Sam Mendes, was her husband. She was quite uneasy with this. How little Mendes appeared to care that she was being kissed by someone else startled and upset Winslet.

“I just kept saying, ‘This is too weird,’” she stated, according to Marie Claire. “Leo told me to get over it, but I said, ‘You’re my best friend, and he’s my husband. This is definitely a bit weird.’”

In fact, Kate was the one who initially proposed Leo take on the role of Frank Wheeler in the film.

“As soon as I read the screenplay I knew Leo had to be in it,” she said.

“To me, no one could play [the lead] Frank Wheeler but Leo.”

“The great thing about him is that he’s not afraid to play a weak character and I just knew we would work as this married couple.”

“But when I mentioned his name there was this silence. It was like I’d tempted fate by coming up with the dream pairing.”

Revolutionary Road, according to The Daily Mail, was one of the key reasons for Winslet and her husband’s eventual divorce.

“It was certainly a difficult time,” DiCaprio explained to The Daily Mail. “She was really worried that Sam wasn’t bothered by the fact that his wife was making out with another guy right in front of her. I told her it was only acting, but she kept on saying, ‘This is really weird.’”

“When Sam started telling her exactly how to have s=x with me, she didn’t like it at all,” DiCaprio continued. “She was freaking out because she was supposed to be having s=x with her best friend – me – while her husband directed.”

Elsewhere, Winslet has consistently criticized Hollywood’s preoccupation with thin women.

The stunning actress always struggled with her weight, sometimes as a bulky teenager and later as an overweight actress. But today she has the most ideal body thanks to a straightforward fitness regimen.

She said: “I’ve actually been this way since I had Joe. I still don’t believe in this craziness for being skinny, but I eat sensibly and I don’t stuff down chocolate biscuits.”

“I don’t go to the gym because I don’t have time, but I do pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home.”

She describes herself as a ‘very vocal drum-beater for normal women’.

“I guess I have to admit I do care what people think. I hate people thinking I’m some pretentious fraud,” she continues.
