Why Cara Delevingne refused to hide her psoriasis at the Met Gala

Model Cara Delevingne recently made an appearance at the Met Gala and used the opportunity to bring attention to her psoriasis, a skin disease that affects around 125 million people worldwide.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory condition that occurs when the body sends incorrect signals that speed up cell growth in affected areas.

It is often characterized by itchy, scaly patches on the skin, and is most commonly found on the knees, elbows, or scalp.

While there is no cure for psoriasis, it can be managed with various treatments.

Delevingne has previously revealed that she experiences flare-ups of her psoriasis when she is stressed or nervous.

In an interview with Glamour Germany, she said that she used to hate her condition but learned that it only made it worse.

She now wants to encourage others living with psoriasis to feel confident in their own skin.

At the Met Gala, Delevingne wore a gold outfit that left her tattoos and skin condition visible.

She chose not to cover up her psoriasis, making it a focal point and bringing attention to the condition.

In doing so, she hoped to spark conversations about psoriasis and allow other sufferers to feel seen.

Delevingne is one of the biggest models in the industry, with a recognizable face that has appeared on numerous high-fashion campaigns, magazine covers, and TV screens.

She has also gained a large following on social media due to her unique eyebrows and charismatic charm.

The theme of the Met Gala 2022 was “Gilded Glamour,” and Delevingne took to the steps of the event wearing a pair of pants and a top that was covered in gold.

Only her tattoos and skin condition were left out, making them more visible.

In an interview with Glamour Germany, Delevingne explained that she wanted to take the opportunity to bring awareness to psoriasis.

She said, “I’ve always talked about my psoriasis, so it wasn’t new. But I’ve never been more naked in public and showing my psoriasis there was just overwhelming.”

“I didn’t realize at first what that would mean.”

Delevingne’s decision to show her psoriasis at the Met Gala was a brave one, as the condition is often something that people feel the need to hide or cover up when going out in public.

However, Delevingne wants to inspire others living with psoriasis to be proud of their condition and feel confident in their own skin.

It is estimated that around 2.5% of the population in Australia has psoriasis, while worldwide, around 125 million people are affected by the condition.

According to the World Psoriasis Day consortium, psoriasis is an incurable autoimmune disease that can occur on different parts of the body, to varying degrees, and can come and go in cycles lasting weeks or months.
