ABC News has suspended Whoopi Goldberg of “The View” for two weeks after she stated that the Holocaust was not about race.

“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments. While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” ABC News President Kim Godwin said, “The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, she added in the memo, “These decisions are never easy, but necessary,”

“Just last week I noted that the culture at ABC News is one that is driven, kind, inclusive, respectful, and transparent. Whoopi’s comments do not align with those values.”

Godwin expressed her gratitude for Goldberg’s apologies.

“But words matter and we must be cognizant of the impact our words have,” Godwin said in a message to network employees explaining why the actor and comedian had been suspended.

Goldberg made the remarks on Monday’s broadcast of the talk show, when she and the other presenters were discussing how a Tennessee school board banned the Holocaust-themed graphic novel “Maus” adding to a long list of banned publications in the United States.

“It’s about the Holocaust, the killing of six million people, but that didn’t bother you?” she asked. “If you’re going to do this, then let’s be truthful about it. Because the Holocaust isn’t about race. No, it’s not about race.”

Instead, it was about “man’s inhumanity to man” according to Goldberg, who added that both sets of people were white.

When co-host Ana Navarro stated that the genocide was “about white supremacy … and going after Jews and gypsies and Roma,” Goldberg answered that the Holocaust was about “two white groups of people.”

“The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is — it’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white because Black, white, Jews — everybody.”

Several prominent Jewish leaders condemned Goldberg’s original statement, which he apologized for hours later and again on Tuesday’s morning broadcast.

“My words upset so many people, which was never my intention,” she remarked Tuesday morning. “I understand why now and for that I am deeply, deeply grateful because the information I got was really helpful and helped me understand some different things.”

“I said the Holocaust wasn’t about race and was instead about man’s inhumanity to man,” Goldberg said. “But it is indeed about race because Hitler and the Nazis considered Jews to be an inferior race.”

“Now, words matter, and mine are no exception,” she said. “I regret my comments, as I said, and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people as they know and y’all know, because I’ve always done that.”

The revelation hasn’t gone down well with Goldberg’s “The View” co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and Ana Navarro, according to The Daily Beast.

Ben Shapiro and Donald Trump, Jr. were among those who called on Goldberg to resign or be fired.

Actor Michael Rapaport condemned Goldberg’s remarks in a video, stating that the genocide “f***ing was” about race.

“It was only about race. it was about kill the Jews, exterminate the Jews. ‘They’re not white, they’re Jewish.’ That’s like saying slavery wasn’t about race,” he said. “…Not good, not cool. … Leave the f***ing Jews alone.”

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, assistant dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, lauded Goldberg for her outspokenness on social problems throughout the years, but said he couldn’t comprehend her Holocaust comment.

“The only explanation that I have for it is that there is a new definition of racism that has been put out there in the public recently that defines racism exclusively as the targeting of people of color. ​And obviously history teaches us otherwise,” Cooper said.

“Everything about Nazi Germany and about the targeting of the Jews and about the Holocaust was about race and racism. That’s the unfortunate, unassailable historic fact,” he said.
