Courtney Love is known as the ultimate wild woman of rock. So when Janet Jackson exposed herself at the Superbowl live on TV it was only a matter of time before the response came.

The artist took advantage of her appearance on the David Letterman show, posing a new challenge to TV producers in terms of what they could present live to an American audience.

Several times, the former lead singer of Hole teased the audience by partially lifting her T-shirt.

She eventually exposed herself while singing Danny Boy on top of Letterman’s desk, causing the network to use a time delay to distort the image.

“I haven’t shown my boobs for so long,” Love claimed.

Love joked with Letterman that “the judge was cool” and maintained, “I’m not in trouble,” a day after arriving two hours late to address narcotics charges in a Los Angeles court.

After allegedly hurling a microphone stand that struck a man in the head, Courtney Love was arrested in New York this morning and charged with reckless endangerment and third-degree assault.

This comes after Love, 39, got into problems with the Federal Communication Commission after repeatedly baring her breasts during CBS’ “Late Show” with David Letterman on Wednesday.

Love is accused of hitting Gregory Burgett, 24, of London, Ky., in the head with a microphone stand as he watched the start of her concert at Plaid’s weekly “Kitten Club” rock ‘n’ roll night in the East Village.

According to authorities, the 24-year-old male was rushed to a hospital and is in stable condition. After the 2:30 a.m. altercation at a fancy Manhattan nightclub, police said they were charging Love with reckless endangerment and third-degree assault.

The microphone stand “ended up in the crowd,” according to the club’s publicist, Claire O’Connor, and Love “didn’t intend to hit this guy.”

“She went back to her dressing room, completely unaware that there was an incident and she was about to be arrested,” O’Connor explained.

According to police and witnesses, Love was arrested after Burgett required three staples in his head and stated that he wanted charges filed.

Love was issued a ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on April 19. Each of the two misdemeanor offenses carries a potential penalty of one year.

In an emailed statement, Love spokeswoman Jill Fritzo stated, “We are presently investigating the charges. There is a pending court date and we believe she will be vindicated.”

Love’s court appearance in New York City came only one day after she appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom to face felony narcotics possession charges stemming from an arrest last October. Love’s behavior at Wednesday’s hearing was described as unpredictable, evoking the wrath of Superior Court Judge Elden Fox, who told her, “Ms. Love, you’re not doing yourself any service,” during one of several outbursts. On those allegations, Love’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 15th.

Love rose to prominence independently with her band Hole and her role in the film “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” after her husband, Nirvana vocalist Kurt Cobain, committed suicide in their Seattle home in 1994. Love has admitted to using heroin in the past, but claims to have changed her ways.

In recent months, she’s grown more well-known for her outlandish conduct, temper tantrums, and run-ins with the cops.

Love, 39, has been on a mission to prove that bad Publicity does exist. Sweetheart was released a month ago and debuted at number 53 on the charts. The record immediately dropped out of the Top 200 after its debut and has yet to reach six-figure sales.

She’ll be performing tonight at the Bowery Ballroom in New York. At publication time, the label for Calls to Love had not responded.
