Viola Davis doesn’t shy away from sex scenes

Actress Viola Davis spoke openly about her willingness to perform sex scenes on-screen despite not conforming to the typical Hollywood body type.

During a conversation with Tom Hanks on Variety’s Actors on Actors, the 51-year-old stated that she wants to play the scene genuinely, saying, “If I’m in a sex scene, I want to play the sex scene.”

She also added that she wants to convey why she is attracted to the other person, saying, “this is what my body looks like.”

Davis joked that she often ends up playing a character who is intimate with someone who “looks like they’ve been in the gym for the last year.”

This has led her to be self-conscious and question why there aren’t any scenes that depict characters working out.

“They never show characters at the gym working out,” commented Hanks. “They always just all have a great body.”

The Oscar-winning actress explained that the idealized bodies of her co-stars make her “hate nude scenes,” and she would love to see more realistic portrayals of characters.

“I look at them and I’m like, ‘Okay, you’ve been in the gym. Where are the stretch marks?'” said Davis.

Despite her insecurities, Davis is proud to play a “sexualized” role on the television show How to Get Away with Murder.

She stated that it was an opportunity to represent an often-overlooked demographic.

“I saw it as an opportunity for a dark-skinned actress of 50 to be in a role that’s sexualized, not sexy. There’s a difference between sexualized and sexy,” said Davis.

Davis’s willingness to perform sex scenes is a refreshing change from the Hollywood norm, which often caters to conventional beauty standards.

She has previously spoken about her journey to self-acceptance and body positivity.

“My message to anyone who is struggling with their weight is to love yourself. Embrace who you are,” she said in an interview with InStyle in 2020.

Davis’s frank and candid discussion about her body and sex scenes highlights the importance of representation and diversity in Hollywood.

Her willingness to be vulnerable on-screen is a testament to her talent and commitment to her craft.

Davis’s comments also bring to light the double standard in Hollywood, where male actors are not subject to the same scrutiny and expectations as female actors.

This issue has been a topic of discussion in recent years, with actresses calling for equal representation and fair treatment on set.

Despite the challenges and inequalities she faces in the industry, Davis continues to be a trailblazer for diversity and inclusivity in Hollywood.

She has become an inspiration to many, using her platform to promote body positivity and self-acceptance.

In a world where beauty standards are constantly changing, Davis’s honesty and authenticity serve as a reminder that true beauty comes from within.
