Title: The Changing Tide for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the US

Former US Anglo-American adviser and senior fellow of the Beaux Group think tank, Lee Cohen, has highlighted a shift in public opinion towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the United States.

Despite initially being met with positivity and warmth, Cohen suggests that many sensible Americans are now questioning the couple’s actions, much like their counterparts in the UK.

Cohen emphasizes that the royal couple had access to the best teachers and guidance within the royal family, making it difficult to comprehend why they did not adhere to expected norms.

When asked about potential ways for Prince Harry and Meghan to improve their popularity, Cohen expressed uncertainty, stating that in Britain, they may already be beyond redemption in many quarters.

He further noted that a similar sentiment is shared among more sensible American audiences who feel that the couple has abandoned the country that welcomed them warmly, severing the bridges of goodwill that were extended to them.

Cohen delved into the initial reaction to the Duchess of Sussex in the UK, explaining that there was genuine enthusiasm surrounding her arrival.

Many believed she could bring a fresh perspective and modernize the monarchy positively.

However, things took a different turn, either due to a lack of understanding of her role or an unwillingness to accept its conditions.

Cohen stressed that as public figures, there are certain expectations of behavior, and the Duchess should have embraced them wholeheartedly.

Most people would be thrilled to become a royal and would willingly make the necessary sacrifices for the privileges that come with it.

Highlighting the importance of role models, Cohen pointed out that the Queen and most of the royal family adhere to expected conventions while avoiding controversial issues.

He criticized Prince Harry’s comments on the First Amendment, deeming them an extremely poor decision and urging him to stay away from politics, particularly contentious topics, in his new home country.

Contrary to popular belief, Cohen disagreed with the notion that Americans desired a royal family.

However, he acknowledged that there is immense respect for the institution.

Polls indicate admiration and respect for the royal family among Americans, but there is little desire to quasi-adopt one.

Cohen also observed that US audiences are less familiar with the royal family and, therefore, more forgiving when protocols or behaviors are not followed.

In contrast, the British press and audience tend to be more systematically critical, as exemplified by the response to the Royal Oprah Winfrey interview.

Cohen emphasized that America is a diverse nation, and his perspective does not represent the views of everyone who either idolizes or condemns the royal couple.

It is important to recognize the varying opinions within the country.

The scrutiny faced by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle intensified after their decision to step back from their roles within the royal family.

Prince Harry claimed to have been financially cut off by his father, while Meghan revealed her struggles with mental health and the lack of support she received.

Additionally, the couple made allegations of racism within the firm during their groundbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey.

As public sentiment continues to evolve, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face the challenge of regaining trust and rebuilding their image in both the UK and the US.
