Terry Crews settles lawsuit with the Hollywood agent he says groped him

Terry Crews has reached a settlement with Adam Venit, the Hollywood talent agent who was accused of groping him during a public event.

The settlement was confirmed Thursday by Venit’s agency, William Morris Endeavor, which was also listed as a defendant in the complaint.

Crews filed the civil action on January 30th, alleging that Venit grabbed and squeezed his groin during a party in 2016. During the #MeToo movement, Crews was one of the most notable men to come forward as a victim. He claimed he had remained silent because he was afraid of being shunned.

Venit is also set to leave WME on Monday, according to Deadline. Crews’ claim had already resulted in his suspension and demotion.

After the news surfaced on Thursday, the 50-year-old actor turned to Twitter with a one-word message: “ACCOUNTABILITY.”

Last November, the actor said “People need to be held accountable. This is the deal about Hollywood. It is an abuse of power. This guy, again, he’s one of the most powerful man in Hollywood, and he looked at me at the end as if, ‘Who is going to believe you?'”

During his initial meeting with Crews, “Venit stared at Crews intently, like a rabid dog, sticking his tongue in and out of his mouth provocatively,” the lawsuit reads.

The came the assault: “Venit, upon his first meeting Crews, viciously grabbed Crews’ penis and testicles so hard that it caused Crews immediate pain.”

Crews requested punitive and exemplary damages in his case, claiming that the encounter caused him physical and psychological harm.

In court records, Venit rejected the claims, stating that his activities toward Crews were not sexual and caused no damage.

Crews indicated that his criminal case against Venit was thrown out owing to the talent agent’s close relationship with the Los Angeles Police Department a little more than a week ago.

Late in August, he tweeted, “Adam Venit has been the Event Chairman of the LAPD Foundation, which raises millions for the @LAPD. Anyone wonder why my assault case against him was thrown out by the D.A.? Yeah, #MeToo.”

Prosecutors in the case declined to press charges.

The Los Angeles City District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office both dismissed his case because the claims did not fulfill felony filing criteria (who said the statute of limitations expired).

The claims prompted WME to conduct an internal investigation. Crews’ complaint regarding Venit was “indicative of a pattern, rather than an isolated event,” according to the agency’s internal probe. The agent was demoted from his position as head of the motion picture group at the agency.
