Instagram model Jayne Rivera defends posing by dad’s coffin

A fitness model from the United States has defended her conduct after receiving much criticism for posing in front of her father’s casket.

According to NBC News, Jayne Rivera shared a series of images on Instagram on Monday following the burial of her father, Jose Antonio Rivera, 56, who died on October 11. He was a soldier who served in Afghanistan.

Jayne Rivera, a TikTok celebrity from Miami, Florida, is well-known for her fashion, travel, and swimsuit posts.

She is also a fitness model, professional athlete, and the creator on OnlyFans, according to her website. Her Instagram account is no longer active, but according to Social Blade, a social media analytics company, she had over 80,000 followers. She has over 300,000 TikTok followers, and her account is still online as of Friday morning, though she hasn’t tweeted about the criticism.

In an interview with NBC News, Rivera said she “understood the negative reception,” but added that the images were shot “with the best intentions in a manner my father would have approved with had he still been alive.”

“Everyone handles the loss of a loved one in their own ways; some are more traditional while others might come across as taboo,” the content maker stated in a statement released Wednesday. “For me, I treated the celebration as if my father was right next to me, posing for the camera as he had done on many occasions prior.”

Ms Rivera is dressed in a tight black suit dress with one long sleeve and stockings in the images.

She appears to be smiling in some photos, but in others she appears to be posing with her head over her shoulder. Another shot shows her praying with her hands clasped together, with her father’s body visible in the backdrop.

Rivera apparently told NBC News in an interview that Instagram deactivated her account two days after she shared images at the burial “with no reason given”

Rivera claimed she shared the images to Instagram on the same day they were shot, which was Sunday, more than a week after her father died on Oct. 11.

“Butterfly fly away. Rip Papi you were my best friend. A life well lived,” Rivera confirmed she wrote in the post.

Later, an Instagram representative informed NBC6 that the account was suspended for breaking the platform’s regulations, not the funeral photographs in specific, but did not identify which ones. “No community guidelines were broken when the photos were published,” Rivera said later.

The photographs, which went viral, sparked outrage, with many people, including outspoken broadcaster and British journalist Piers Morgan, calling it “the most horrific Instagram post” they had ever seen.

In an article for the Daily Mail, he said, “This callous young woman’s horrific photo-preen beside her father’s corpse is the worst thing I’ve ever seen on Instagram and exposes a sickening moral vacuum at the heart of like-obsessed young ‘influencers’.”

One Twitter user remarked, “Have I mentioned the problem of a narcissistic and performative culture.”

Another person tweeted: “Is having kids really worth it?”

Other users stood up for her. “Not what I’d have done, though grief is a weird thing and maybe putting this girl on blast on the day of her dad’s funeral is a thing you could have chosen not to do,” writer and editor Bethany Mandel tweeted. Rivera’s critics, according to a number of Twitter users, are no better than she is.

“There is nothing wrong with what I posted, and I stand by that,” Rivera said of her decision to post the images.

Jayne told NBC News that people from the outside “judge a book by its cover without stopping to understand the intentions or underlying meanings of the book,” and that she has worked “extremely hard” for eight years to establish her fanbase.

She also stated that because she was a full-time influencer, her father was frequently featured on her Instagram and that she believed it was important for her fans to be aware that he had passed away.

“People are going to disagree, either way, and I’m used to it. I am a Rivera, and I know my dad is proud of me and how things turned out,” she said. “He will not be forgotten.”
