Sophie Ellis Bextor fans slam ‘rude’ BBC for snubbing her Glastonbury set

Fans of British singer Sophie Ellis Bextor were left outraged after her Glastonbury set was not shown in full during live coverage on BBC One or uploaded to iPlayer afterwards.

The 44-year-old performer got the crowd going when she performed on The Pyramid Stage on Sunday, calling it a “career highlight”.

However, viewers at home were unable to join in the fun as the BBC neglected to show her set during live coverage aside from just 10 seconds of highlights alongside an interview with her.

The corporation also failed to upload the full highlights on iPlayer.

Sophie revealed that her performance hadn’t been filmed in full, despite appearing on the festival’s main stage.

After being inundated with fans asking to see it, Sophie took to Twitter, saying that due to hours on the day it wasn’t possible for the BBC to cover her set.

Fans were left outraged by the snub, calling it “rude” and “unacceptable”.

This isn’t the first time that the BBC has been accused of snubbing performers’ sets.

Lana Del Rey’s set was also left off iPlayer, despite headlining the Other Stage on Saturday night.

On the night, Lana had her microphone completely cut off during the set when she hit curfew after taking to the stage 30 minutes late.

Despite the delayed start, many on Sunday were frustrated they couldn’t watch it on iPlayer.

A BBC spokesperson said that Lana Del Rey’s set was broadcasted in full on Saturday night and that they can include selected tracks as part of their on-demand offer on BBC iPlayer, as agreed with the artist.

Lana’s set had been due to end at 11:45 pm but was still going on more than 15 minutes later.

Glastonbury isn’t allowed to play music on any major stages past midnight, which is why Lana’s set was cut off.

After she was cut off, Lana began speaking to the crowds without a microphone and gesturing, and her fans soon realised what she was asking as they all started singing her smash hit “Video Games”.

In a bid to make it up to her fans, Lana stepped down off the stage and greeted festival-goers in the front row, signing “Summertime Sadness” with them and signing autographs.

Sophie’s fans were left disappointed by the BBC’s decision not to show her set in full, citing that it was “one of the few chances” they could see her live.

Many expressed their frustration on Twitter, with some calling the decision “wholly unacceptable”.

Others praised Sophie for being gracious and hoped that she would return to Glastonbury next year.

It is unclear why the BBC decided not to show Sophie’s set in full or upload it to iPlayer.

However, this incident has sparked a debate about whether broadcasters should prioritise certain performers over others during live coverage of events like Glastonbury.

It remains to be seen if the BBC will address the issue and provide an explanation to Sophie’s fans.

In conclusion, fans of Sophie Ellis Bextor have expressed their outrage after her Glastonbury set was not shown in full during live coverage on BBC One or uploaded to iPlayer afterwards.

The singer’s performance wasn’t filmed in full, despite appearing on the festival’s main stage, leaving fans disappointed.

This incident has highlighted the need for broadcasters to provide equal coverage to all performers during live events.
