Zara McDermott allegedly hopes she could move on with her lover Sam Thompson without constantly being reminded of her infidelity.

Zara McDermott made news last year when her cheating scandal surfaced.

The Love Island star, 24, said on the latest edition of Made in Chelsea that she had slept with another guy while on X Factor: Celebrity, while she was in a relationship with Sam, 28, culminating in Sam leaving her.

After a few months apart, the lovebirds realized they couldn’t stay apart, and former Celebs Go Dating star Sam decided to give Zara another opportunity.

Zara McDermott, though, thinks she will never be able to escape her unfaithful history, after her partner Sam Thompson was compelled to respond to trolls who couldn’t help but remind him of it.

“Zara hates when people bring up the past,” the source says. “Every time she sees a comment about the cheating, it makes her feel sad. It still hurts her to be labelled a cheat. She knows it’s hurtful for Sam too and just wishes people would let them move on.”

While the collapse of Sam and Zara’s relationship was depicted on Made in Chelsea, the couple looks to be stronger than ever in recent months.

Sam was compelled to defend his girlfriend after he tweeted a heartfelt tribute to her on Valentine’s Day.

The Made in Chelsea star captioned a photo of herself, “I still wake up thinking it’s a dream. I love you.”

Sam previously told MailOnline that his brief split with Zara ‘humanised’ him.

Sam’s tweet was deluged with harsh comments from followers who used phrases like “once a cheat, always a cheat” and “can’t believe you took her back.”

“Hope it stays this way,” said the second user, while another added, “Nope Sam, it wasn’t a dream, she really did run off with that X Factor producer.”

Sam sympathized with her after learning from his own experiences and being “the person who’s made a mistake and come back stronger.”

Sam said: ‘I believe in forgiveness. I understand the context – and I think in any walk of life you can’t move forward unless you forgive.

‘Forgiveness allows you to heal. You can only heal when you forgive the other person and get over that.

‘I would definitely say no matter what you should always try to forgive and you’ll feel better in yourself – it’s f***ing easier said than done but you’ve got to strive for that.’

Following the barrage of nasty remarks, Sam clapped back to show his support for his girlfriend.

Sam was quick to reply, claiming, “Some people are p***ks, and that’s the way it will always be. Instead of spouting a useless saying, it’s much more effective to just accept that some people are w****rs and move on.”

One insider revealed how Zara felt at the time, saying, “She was at a really low ebb at that time in her life and she and Sam have since moved on. She’s gone above and beyond to win Sam back and just wishes people would let them be. She fears people will never let her forget that she cheated.”

“Zara was obviously thrilled that Sam stood up to the trolls and protected her but it’s still a low blow,” the insider continues.

Sam unfollowed Zara on Instagram after their separation in August and openly rejected her many professions of love.
