William and Kate are ‘sending secret messages’ to Harry and Meghan

A royal biographer says that Prince William and Kate Middleton are sending a covert message to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with their latest wave of royal engagements and public remarks.

Royal historian Duncan Larcombe, author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story, provided a professional perspective into the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s recent conduct in a new interview with Closer magazine. He specifically addressed what we can learn from Will and Kate’s actions and words in the aftermath of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which the Sussexes detailed their reasons for stepping back from royal duties, including a lack of support from the rest of the royal family and a problematic comment about the skin color of a baby.

He believes the couple are implying that life goes on without Meghan and Harry’s involvement in the Firm.

CloserMagazine quoted him as saying: “William and Kate have kept a dignified silence but now they’re letting their actions do the talking. It’s almost as if they’re sending a secret message to Harry and Meghan saying, ‘We’re going to keep going, we’re still here, we’re not backing down, we’re carrying on.’ It’s a message to Harry that life continues – with or without him.”

Meghan and Harry made a variety of claims during the contentious interview, including accusing the royals of being concerned about Archie’s skin tone, according to the Mirror.

Although the royal family has been relatively mute on all things Harry and Meghan, Larcombe argues that Will and Kate have sent a very clear response to the accusations through their behavior. He specifically mentioned a statement William issued on Twitter earlier this month in reaction to racist assaults against footballers Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka on social media following the Euros final.

In a personal tweet signed “W,” from the Kensington Royal account, he wrote: “I am sickened by the racist abuse aimed at England players after last night’s match. It is totally unacceptable that players have to endure this abhorrent behaviour. It must stop now and all those involved should be held accountable.”

Duncan stated: “William and Kate are definitely on the charm offensive right now – and it’s working.

“While William has always spoken out against racism, his statement this time was really powerful and especially relevant after Harry and Meghan’s accusation about the royal family.”

“William and Kate have kept a dignified silence but now they’re letting their actions do the talking. It’s almost as if they’re sending a secret message to Harry and Meghan saying, ‘We’re going to keep going, we’re still here, we’re not backing down, we’re carrying on.’ It’s a message to Harry that life continues—with or without him.”

He went on to say that another allegation made by Meghan and Harry during the interview, that the Duke of Cambridge felt ‘trapped’ in the Royal family, has been ‘actively’ refuted by Will and Kate.

During the interview, Harry was frank about his fragile ties with numerous family members, even saying that when he and Meghan decided to relocate to California, his father, Prince Charles, “stopped taking [his] calls.” Harry said that many of the issues he and Meghan experienced were fundamental to the royal family’s institution, which is operated like a company in many respects and has even been dubbed “The Firm.”

He believed that other royals could be disgruntled, and that he was in a different situation than his father and brother because they are direct successors to the throne.

Harry told Oprah: “My father and brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave.”

Duncan said: “Kate is full of smiles wherever she goes – she’s sending a message back to Harry and Meghan saying, ‘We’re happy, we’re fun – we’re not trapped like you said we are.”
