The logistics of moving The Queen across the globe, whether as part of her formal royal responsibilities or just for a vacation, are a bit more complex than taking a taxi to the airport and getting on a plane like the rest of us.

When The Queen travels, she always brings one strange item with her: a supply of her own blood.

Although it may seem to be something only a hypochondriac would do, the Queen, Prince Philip, and Prince Charles all travel with their own personal blood packs in places where it may be difficult to get if they become ill.

“The Queen always travels with a supply of blood which is placed in the responsibility of whichever doctor is on duty and accompanies her on duties and Royal tours,” royal author Adam Helliker told Fabulous Digital.

“This means that in a country where speedy access to a reliable blood supply cannot be guaranteed, such as remote parts of Africa, the sovereign and her consort will be able to receive blood transfusions if they were required for a medical emergency.”

Her personal aide is in charge of the blood, and the Queen usually travels with three physicians in case she becomes sick.

“So it’s just like someone making voluntary blood donations – the difference being that she will be the only recipient if it’s ever needed – that ‘blue blood’ will never find its way to an ordinary patient.”

To prevent having to utilize someone else’s blood, the Queen’s blood supply is “regularly topped up” with her own blood, according to Helliker.

They also do extensive study ahead of time to find local hospitals that are suitable for Her Majesty in case she has to be hospitalized.

In addition, because her father died while she was on vacation in Kenya in 1952 and had only packed summer clothes, the royal family now always travels with at least one all-black costume in case someone dies while on vacation.

Her crew found she only had a flowery dress with her and no suitable black mourning attire to meet the world’s press while on her way back to London.

According to Hello! magazine, royal tradition dictates that two heirs to the throne should never fly together to preserve the bloodline, although Prince William has disobeyed this rule on numerous occasions with his three children.

Furthermore, according to The Telegraph, Her Majesty usually travels with a monogrammed kettle, which matches her customized baggage, as well as a supply of Earl Grey tea.
