Kent Gavin, who became friends with the Princess of Wales after photographing her for years, including her wedding to Prince Charles, has revealed why he felt the Sussexes wouldn’t last.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married on May 19, 2018. Kent Gavin, the Daily Mirror’s royal photographer, didn’t hold out much hope for the royal couple, even predicting that they wouldn’t be together after three years. He was, however, wrong. The couple celebrated their third wedding anniversary in May.

Kent Gavin befriended the Princess of Wales while photographing her at events such as her wedding, Prince William’s baptism, and royal tours.

Gavin told Insider in a recent interview, “When it was announced that Harry was going to marry Meghan, I said to my colleagues and a few people, “I don’t give that marriage three years.”

He felt this because he didn’t think someone like Markle, who grew up in Hollywood, would be able to deal with the monarchy.

“I can’t picture Meghan, a gorgeous woman and a strong actress, putting up with a system that even Diana couldn’t handle,” Gavin said.

Meghan’s wedding designer, Chloe Savage, shared her thoughts and predictions earlier this year.

She didn’t appear surprised by their plans since she thought Markle wasn’t prepared for the pressure and “rules and regulations” that come with being a British royal.

In January, Savage told Insider, “I think she underestimated the role.”

“The royal family has a history of breaking individuals. Kate had plenty of time to adjust to the situation. They took their time with her, whereas Meghan jumped right in.”

“It almost broke Diana. Sarah Ferguson’s heart was broken. It has previously broken people. I realize it’s looser now than it was then, but I don’t think she was prepared for what she could and couldn’t do, say, or wear back then,” she continued.

Harry and Meghan married in a lavish wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in May 2018, and they are still together today.

After leaving the royal family to raise their children in the United States, Harry and Meghan have built prosperous lives for themselves.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex live in $14 million home in Montecito, California, with their two children, Archie, 2, and Lili, born in June.

During the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, Markle said that she was “naive” about what it meant to marry a royal before she and Harry said “I do.”

“I didn’t grow up knowing much about the royal family,” Markle, who grew up in the US, said. “It wasn’t something that was part of the conversation at home. It wasn’t something we followed.”

“I genuinely thought that was what happens outside,” she told Winfrey. “I thought that was part of the fanfare. I didn’t think that was what happens inside.”

Markle stated that she was startled when Harry informed her that she needed to curtsy when meeting the Queen at the Royal Lodge.
