Queen invites Harry and Meghan to Platinum Jubilee celebrations
The Queen has reached out to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, asking them to join the Royal Family in London for the Platinum Jubilee festivities next summer.
According to The Daily Mail, the Megxit pair, who abandoned their royal responsibilities last year to live in the United States, are scheduled to attend the four-day celebrations to commemorate her 70 years on the throne.
According to a source aware of the Jubilee preparations, the pair intends to attend Trooping the Colour, the Queen’s ceremonial birthday procession, as part of the festivities.
The insider is unsure if the pair will accompany the monarch to the royal balcony at Buckingham Palace.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited and I’m sure the Queen is very much looking forward to seeing them there,” a source told the Mail on Sunday.

However, it is unclear if the newlyweds will join the Queen and other senior Royals on the Palace balcony for the customary RAF flypast.
“The balcony moment will be decided much nearer the time but there’s a limit to how many family members should be on it, and I would have thought that working Royals who contribute to the family would be higher on the list than the Sussexes.”
Previous jubilee celebrations have included two balcony appearances, but it is believed that Royal aides may attempt to restrict participation to working Royals exclusively — omitting Harry and Meghan.
According to the source, Prince Charles, who has said that as king he would trim down the monarchy, is believed to favor a decreased presence on the balcony, but fans of Harry and Meghan would likely view a snub as proof that the couple’s allegations of maltreatment from the royals are true.
The Queen’s 70th year on the throne will be commemorated throughout the year, but the main event will take place during an extended bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5.
The Queen will become the first monarch in British history to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
The British queen was just 25 years old when she ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952.
According to Sir Michael Stevens, keeper of the privy purse, maintenance works at Buckingham Palace have “accelerated” during the pandemic to ensure the palace is ready to “play a significant part” in the celebrations.
Throughout the four days, events like as theatre, music, and street celebrations will take place throughout the country, and beacons will be lighted in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, and Overseas Territories such as those in the Commonwealth.
A gratitude ceremony will also be conducted at St Paul’s Cathedral, and the BBC will broadcast a live ‘Platinum Party at the Palace’ event including music from the Queen’s reign.
If the pair attends, it will be the first time both Meghan and Prince Harry have met the Royal Family since Meghan’s shocking Oprah appearance and Harry’s The Me You Can’t See series on Apple TV.
Experts believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are attempting to ease tensions after launching a series of public assaults on the Firm.
The pair made headlines earlier this month when they revealed their daughter’s name was Lilibet, a tribute to the Queen.
Katie Nicholl, a royal analyst, told ET that the couple’s second child might be a rift healer.
She said: “I think everybody’s hope is that this little baby is going to be a rift healer.
“This family division has really gone on for a long time now.
“It is well over a year, it has been many, many months since Charles, the Queen and the Cambridges have seen Archie in the flesh.”
She added: “I think it is everybody’s hope that this little baby will be a peace offering in many ways.
“And that she will help bring this divided family back together”.
