During a visit to BAE Systems’ shipyard in Glasgow, Scotland, Prince William revealed Kate Middleton’s new role within the royal family.

Kate Middleton has taken on a new job! She’s a sponsor of a new navy battleship.

According to MyLondon, the Duke of Cambridge revealed his wife’s appointment after traveling with the queen.

Some would assume that getting along with a royal grandmother-in-law would be tough, but Kate and the queen seem to be doing just well. According to a Best Life article from January, “Their relationship is stronger than ever,” Kate was allegedly “the family’s secret weapon” in 2020, when the coronavirus epidemic shut down Britain. “Her Majesty has always been fond of Catherine,” a source said, “but the queen was very pleased to see how the duchess rose to the occasion so brilliantly during lockdown and took on some wonderful initiatives.”

It means Kate, 39, will have a “strong and enduring personal connection to the vessel and her crew, often supporting milestones, events and deployments,” according to her Kensington Palace office.

While addressing the new ship’s development, Prince William recalled his late grandpa, Prince Phillip.

“My family’s affection for the Royal Navy is well known, and as I saw the work taking place here today, I was thinking of my Grandfather, The Duke of Edinburgh,” Prince William said. “He would have been fascinated and very excited to see such advances in skills and technology being put into practice.”

The heartfelt homage comes following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh in April of this year, at the age of 99.

Prince William joyfully announced the position, saying, “Today, I’m very pleased to announce that my family’s connection with Type 26 will endure for many years to come.”

“Her Majesty The Queen has approved the appointment of my wife Catherine as Sponsor of the superb ship we see taking shape outside – HMS Glasgow.”

“I know that Catherine will be delighted to join you here in Glasgow for the naming ceremony in due course.”

And the connection will be maintained at home: William was given replicas of the ship to paint by his and Kate’s three children, Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3!

Over the last two days, Prince William has attended a number of engagements in Scotland with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. According to People magazine, William was given a tour of the shipyard on Tuesday and talked with BAE Systems grads.

According to OK, Kate even has a direct phone line to the queen. R oyal analyst Duncan Larcombe says Kate “strikes that balance between bowing to her as head of the royal family in public but being able to check in with her as the great-grandmother to her children.”

During his visit on Tuesday, William, 39, was given a tour of the ship’s construction by Cara Shannon, an electrical apprentice who works on the Type 26 program at Govan.

The Duchess of Cambridge will be the first woman to sponsor a naval vessel, a long-standing tradition and honor in the Royal Navy.
