Queen Elizabeth Had A Successful Cataract Surgery

While Princess Anne and Prince William have completely embraced summer and are wearing sunglasses as fashion statements, Queen Elizabeth’s choice to wear sunglasses in recent weeks may be medical.

A cataract was removed from the Queen’s eye during surgery. The effective operation was performed on the 92-year-old queen in May.

“I can confirm that the Queen successfully underwent a short planned procedure to treat a cataract last month,” a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace stated.

Cataract surgery is used to cure cataracts, which may cause impaired vision and light glare. An ophthalmologist usually performs the operation, which is routine and often safe.

A small incision is made in the eye during the procedure to remove the clouded lens and replace it with a clear plastic one. It is often performed under local anaesthesia, and patients are typically discharged the same day. Recovery may take four to six weeks.

The operation took place at King Edward VII hospital, according to ITV news correspondent Chris Ship. He said on Twitter, “The Queen was treated at King Edward VII hospital for her cataract operation – the same hospital which carried out the hip replacement operation on her husband,” “I understand the operation (day surgery) happened on May 4th.”

The Queen did not cancel or postpone any engagements as a consequence of the surgery,

She not only attended a demonstration put on by medical detection dogs at Buckingham Palace with Camilla this week, but she also toured the “Diamond Jubilee Galleries” at Westminster Abbey with Prince Charles, and she will be celebrating her 92nd birthday with the Trooping the Colour parade this weekend. She and the rest of the royal family are scheduled to emerge on the Buckingham Palace balcony tomorrow.

At the age of 94, the Queen Mother had cataract surgery in July 1995. A person’s chance of getting cataracts is increased if they have a family history of them.

The queen seldom wears sunglasses since it conceals her eyes when she greets visitors, but it proved to be the ideal accessory to help her recuperate from cataract surgery.

The Queen is renowned for her strong constitution and is in excellent health. When she experienced symptoms of gastroenteritis in 2013, she was admitted to the hospital for the first time in ten years. The Queen’s engagements were canceled for a week, including a two-day trip to Rome, and she spent one night in hospital.

Meghan Markle, her new granddaughter-in-law, knows the ideal pair of sunglasses if she needs some advice. Her first official appearance with Prince Harry was at the Invictus Games in Toronto in September 2017, when she wore her iconic tortoiseshell spectacles by Finlay London Percy.
