Prince William ‘reduced Prince Charles to tears’ with off-the-cuff comment
Prince William “reduced” Prince Charles to tears in a TV program when he spoke out on the significance of royal succession and inheritance.
The father and son are said to have established a strong relationship in recent years, according to Emily Andrews of the Mail on Sunday, who claims they “have become much closer, their bond much stronger.” Part of this is inevitable as they get older and realize their common ideals in safeguarding the monarchy — the present Prince of Wales and his successor.
In 2019, we witnessed firsthand how close they were.
Prince Charles’ response after watching his eldest son talk to a second-generation farmer, Mervyn Keeling, about his intentions for his father’s private land is revealed in ITV’s 2019 documentary, “Prince Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall.”
William said: ‘I’ve started to think about how I will inherit the Duchy one day and what I do with it. I think it’s really important, about the family angle, I really do.’

Mr Keeling said: “And you’ve got children yourself, to pass it onto, so that’s what it’s all about.”
“Yeah, absolutely,” William responded.
When Prince Charles saw it for the first time, he remembered becoming caught up with emotion. “When I saw it, I couldn’t believe it, I was deeply touched and moved by what he said. Frankly, it reduced me to tears. It did, really. Because, I suddenly thought, well, just hearing that from him has made the last 50 years worthwhile.”
Kate Middleton, William’s wife, is said to have played a key role in drawing the two closer together.
William is reported to have been pushed by Charles to increase his training in preparation for his upcoming position as Prince of Wales.
“The warmth which so obviously zings between father and son seems to signify a laying to rest of the ghosts of William’s childhood and any soreness he has felt towards his father after witnessing the traumatic fallout of his parents’ separation as a 10-year-old boy,” royal commentator Camilla Tominey told The Telegraph.
Charles has been trying to make the Duchy of Cornwall a “sustainable, financially viable” estate that would benefit the local population.
The heir apparent, Prince Charles, is first in line to the throne, followed by Prince William, his eldest son.
Meanwhile, it was reported last month that Prince William and Kate are preparing for Prince Charles to become king. Charles is said to be contemplating “huge changes to royal residences.”
