Prince William ‘did not want Meghan’ at Diana statue unveiling
According to a royal expert, Prince William ‘doesn’t want’ Meghan Markle to attend the Princess Diana statue ceremony. The Duke of Cambridge believes Meghan should not attend any royal ceremony at this time.
The event is scheduled on July 1st, which would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday. Following conflicting reports, it was confirmed earlier this week that Meghan Markle would not travel to London for the event.
Royal expert Charlotte Griffiths made the startling remarks while appearing on MailPlus’ Palace Confidential.
She said: “This decision and this whole thing was 50 percent William.
“Diana is his mother too. He makes a point about that regularly behind closed doors.
Trending:
“This was not the right time to bring Meghan in because there is so much tension between Wiliam and Meghan particularly.”
The Sussexes’ official position, according to Richard Eden, the Mail’s diary editor, is that “they have a very young baby and it’s just not practical for them to be flying over as a family.”
He said: “It’s not a surprise because she wasn’t expected to attend.
“The day was always very much about Diana and her sons. They are the ones making the speeches.
“Can you imagine Meghan coming over after everything that has passed?”
Ms Griffiths noted: “In another world, you can imagine Meghan really looking forward to this visit.
“Her daughter’s middle name is Diana and it’s quite good for ‘brand Markle’.
“But how could she actually face up to it after everything that has happened?”
According to a source close to Meghan and Harry, the Duchess will not accompany her husband on the emotional journey.
The event is likely to be attended by Prince Harry, as has been widely reported.
In fact, both Prince Harry and Prince William were involved in the design and idea of the monument.
The monument was commissioned in 2017, and the brothers issued a joint statement via Kensington Palace at the time.
“The statue was commissioned to mark the 20th anniversary of her death and recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world.”
Both Princes have publicly discussed the sorrow caused by their mother’s passing.
Diana died in a vehicle accident in 1997, when William and Harry were just 15 and 12 years old, respectively.
According to a source close to Meghan, she is putting motherhood ahead of royal obligations.
A Sussex source confirms that the duchess, who gave birth earlier this month, will not be traveling to London with Prince Harry. Meghan will instead devote her time to caring for her newborn baby at her and Harry’s California home in Montecito.
“Meghan has just had a baby and has no plans to travel to London for the memorial event planned for the statue unveiling,” a second source told Entertainment Tonight.
