In a letter to Charles, Prince Harry promised to “respect the institution” after he and Meghan’s interview with Oprah triggered a “complete communication breakdown,” according to reports.

Harry wrote a “deeply personal” letter to his father before flying back to England from his new home in Los Angeles, but the father and son’s broken bond is yet to be restored as Harry prepares to travel back to his pregnant wife and one-year-old son Archie.

As he prepared to see his family for the first time after leaving royal life last year, the Duke of Sussex reached out to Prince Charles after their relationship “hit rock bottom.”

The decision by Harry to star in a tell-all interview with US talk show queen Oprah Winfrey last month, when the Duke of Edinburgh was critically ill in hospital, has left the Prince of Wales “very hurt.”

According to sources close to the Duke of Sussex, owing to a “complete communication breakdown,” he has been “forced to write letters” to his father.

Harry “outlined his reasons for leaving” in the letters while vowing to “respect the institution.”

“Truth be told, Harry didn’t really know what to expect before he came home, which is why he reached out before seeing everyone,” a royal source told the Mirror.

“He wrote a deeply personal note to his dad to try and set things straight but tensions are still running high and things haven’t exactly ironed out the way he had hoped.

“There had been a kind of unspoken agreement between everyone to park whatever has been on each person’s mind, and solely concentrate on supporting the Queen ahead of Prince Philip’s funeral.

“The feeling inside the camp was that it wasn’t the time nor the place to go over things, especially at such an emotional time for everybody involved.”

“Harry didn’t expect everything to be completely back to normal, but his feeling after seeing his family was there is a lot of ground to make up.

“Whether that is harder or easier to do on the other side of the world remains to be seen.

“There is a lot of distrust in the camp and everything is still very, very raw.”

Following Meghan and Harry’s TV interview, in which they accused a senior royal of making a derogatory remark and said Kate Middleton made Meghan cry, William is said to be undecided on how to proceed.

Harry also said that the monarchy had “trapped” his brother and father, and that his relationship with William had become one of “space.”

Despite being seen chatting during their grandfather’s funeral, the brothers’ relationship is said to be “extremely frosty.”

Harry, 36, claimed that a family member speculated on how “dark” his unborn children would be, while Meghan, 39, alleged that the family declined to support her when she was suicidal while pregnant.

Both future kings were “outraged” at the idea that they were trapped in their positions, according to palace sources.

Some of the comments made in the interview are said to have “disappointed” the Queen. She said publicly that Meghan and Harry’s unhappiness as senior royals “saddened” her, but added, “Recollections may vary.”
