Prince Charles’ nickname for Meghan Markle after she joined the Royal Family

Meghan Markle’s nickname from Prince Charles might be interpreted in many ways.

Meghan is allegedly known as ‘Tungsten,’ after the super-strong metal, as a charming homage to her “resilient” nature. When he saw the duchess’s resilience in the aftermath of her wedding to Prince Harry in 2017, he coined the amusing moniker, and it appears to have stayed ever since.

In this sense, tungsten is frequently used to indicate someone who is robust.

Royal journalist Russell Myers said, “He’s been calling her tungsten, the metal, because she is tough and unbending. It’s a bit of a weird one but I think he really respects her. He thinks she has managed to deal with it well. He has had his fair share of bad press in the past, a lot of crisis in his life, so I think he’s trying to get her to navigate the choppy waters of joining the Royal Family.”

Christine-Marie Liwag Dixon, the narrator of The List, told the Express that she thought the Prince of Wales was complimenting his new daughter-in-law when he named her after the world’s toughest metal.

“Meghan Markle hasn’t had an easy time of it since joining the Royal Family,” she told viewers of The List.

“She has also said that she felt less than at home in the Royal Family.

“The Royal Family may not have approved of Meghan and Harry stepping down as senior royals despite them doing so to escape an environment that was clearly not good for their mental health.

“However it seems that Prince Charles had a lot of respect for Meghan’s resilient nature.”

Though the moniker “tungsten” was given to Meghan to help with her transition into the royal family—which, Charles helped with—it’s proved to be more appropriate than ever in the last year and a half. Meghan Markle said during her candid Oprah interview with Prince Harry that she had suicidal thoughts during her time as a royal. She’d been subjected to relentless racist press harassment as a result of her relationship with Harry, and she and Harry told Oprah they didn’t feel supported by the royal family.

Despite Prince Harry’s openness about his rocky connection with his father since leaving the Royal Family, sources believe Meghan and Charles had established a strong friendship.

Having been scalded by the UK media himself, one royal specialist expressed his conviction that the Prince of Wales was related to Meghan.

“He has had his fair share of bad press in the past, a lot of crisis in his life, so I think he’s trying to get her to navigate the choppy waters of joining the Royal Family,” he said.

The Royal Family has nicknames for each other within the walls of the palaces, and some of them are pretty strange.

Meghan also told Oprah that she sought help from “one of the most senior people” at “the institution” but was informed that she couldn’t leave the institution to get therapy because it “wouldn’t be good for the institution.” She also went to the palace’s HR department, “begging” for help, but was informed that she couldn’t help since she “was not a paid employee of the institution,” despite their sympathies for the then-pregnant Meghan. Following the Oprah interview, the palace claimed that “some recollections may vary,” but declined to comment more.
