Prince Charles’ Mean Comment After Harry’s Birth Broke Diana’s Heart

Prince Harry appeared to be the proudest father in the world as he announced to the world that his wife, Meghan Markle, had given birth to a baby boy.

He called Meghan’s birth “the most amazing experience he could ever have possibly imagined” and he complimented other mothers globally.

The tender moment was diametrically opposed to the first remark made by his father, Prince Charles, after he was born.

Princess Diana was many things to many people, but above all, she was a devoted mother to her two kids, Prince William and Prince Harry. While much is known about Diana’s extraordinary bond with her boys, there is one detail surrounding Harry’s birth that many people are unaware of: Prince Charles “desperately” wanted a baby girl, and Diana, knowing she was having a baby boy, hid the secret from her husband during her entire pregnancy.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince Charles told a well-wisher in London, “I hope it’s a girl this time.” Thsi was during Kate Middleton’s pregnancy. However, for some close to the late Princess Diana, the remark brought back painful memories of the moment the adored “People’s Princess” realized her already problematic marriage to Prince Charles was doomed.

Princess Diana apparently had a good relationship with her ex-husband. According to her, when she discovered Prince Harry was a boy, she kept the information from Prince Charles until the baby was delivered. The royal writer Andrew Morton said in his book Diana: Her True Story that Diana withheld the facts to prevent “disappointing” Prince Charles.

“I knew Harry was going to be a boy because I saw on the scan,” Diana said. “Charles always wanted a girl. He wanted two children, and he wanted a girl. I knew Harry was a boy, and I didn’t tell him.”

Despite their strained relationship, Princess Diana stated she was “very, very close” to Prince Charles in the six weeks leading up to the birth of their second child, Harry.

But when the tiny prince, who was fourth in line to the throne at the moment, came, everything changed radically.

Diana was under pressure around a year after Prince William was born in June 1982 to create a spare for the crown. Buckingham Palace announced in September 1983 that Diana was pregnant for the second time, but she miscarried later that week while staying at the Balmoral estate in Scotland. Cut to early 1984, when Charles and Diana learned they were expecting their second child. Diana told friends throughout her tough pregnancy, “I don’t think I’m made for the production line, but it’s all worth it in the end.”

According to Diana, when Prince Charles saw his newborn child, he exclaimed, “Oh God, it’s a boy.” He allegedly told Princess Diana’s mother afterwards, “We were so disappointed — we thought it would be a girl.”

Many truths concerning Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles have come to light in the 23 years after her untimely death.

The disclosure of the comment is only a small fraction of what has come to light regarding what transpired between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Despite Charles’ dismissal of his remark as “joking,” new mom Diana was genuinely hurt.

Add to it Charles’ second remark: “And he’s even got red hair.” Another “joke” that hit Diana square in the feels. For one thing, Diana’s family tree was rife with redheads, so the remark was offensive on a primitive level. Furthermore, Diana may have felt that Charles was bugging her about her adulterous romance with redhead James Hewitt (the affair had ended two years before, so Hewitt couldn’t be the father).

Diana confessed before her sad death that the first statement Charles made about his second son caused her to “close off”

“Then suddenly as Harry was born it just went bang, our marriage, the whole thing went down the drain,” she claimed in an interview in 1991, which was later published in a book by Andrew Morton.
